Might have been covered before, but I was browsing google images to find some Turrican2 screenshots when I came across this german page... The guy is using an A600 in his car as an mp3 player, and he's modified a set-top box to use as a case for the a600!
I know its been covered before, but it's still pretty damn cool. Hope you can understand german ;p

I don't understand German, so I read the English one :-p

IMHO, the only reason for going through the troubles of having an A600 instead of a 100-150 EUR Car CD/Mp3-player that fits nicely in the dash (150 EUR will get you brand name stuff, and you'll need something to hook the Amiga up to anyway in order to get sound in the speakers), is the good old 'because it's an Amiga/because it's possible'
But he's done a good job, though, except for the cassette adapter thingy, It kinda ruins the look...
Well, that's my opinion anyway.

Then you couldn't play Lemmings while idling in a traffic jam...

Nice idea... But, no.
Aside from the tape adapter malarkey, which is frankly inexcusable when (s)he's already gone to such lengths to put the whole computer in there - surely it'd be possible to get a direct line in to that hifi? I understand that using an Amiga to do this is a novelty but another couple of things bother me... For instance the assertion that MP3 @ 128kbps is "cd quality" (a technical impossibility, period). The speakers in that car must be truly awful if a 192 (assuming 196 is a typo) and a 96 kbps encoding are indistinguishable.

I was looking at getting one a couple of weeks ago, but was still put off with the fact I'd still have to swap CDs to find the MP3s I wanted, just 10x less often.
There are 'proper' car MP3 players, with built in HDs, but they cost a damn sight more :-x

True, I guess his stereo didn't have a line in for a CD changer. But there are mini FM transmitters you could use, Ebay has loads of them that are made to allow iPods to be played through an existing stereos.

What i would like to know is,if you look at the end of the page, how did he manage to convert mpeg movies to cdxl format, and then watch them on the amiga600. :-D

Well, I like it :D - it makes my hack using a P90 based old AT system look frankly plain ;) :D

looks good to me. man people do some pretty weird/cool stuff with 600s dont they

its very very easy, man .)

Is the MAS MP3 player still available?
The links on the pages listed in the earlier posts appear to be dead.

I wondered this, I have a mas chip, it'd be good to be able to get the circuit board and build one.

Think it was cool, just sad about the cassette player though. Would be cool to fit a amigaone in a cool bmw m3 and use it as a showcar. :)
