Title: CyberStorm PPC 68k upgrade
Post by: puppy on June 27, 2005, 04:42:08 PM
DCE has finally sent back my CyberStorm PPC unrepaired (after 2 years), and i would like to upgrade, but i can't find website with information about jumpers.

It has 68040 and want to upgrade 68060 so i need to get it working with proper crystal, ao ...

which jumper should i modify to use 50 mhz crystal ?

thanks in advance!

Have a look at
http://web.archive.org/web/20030203061629/http://www.starnet.com.au/davem/overclock/csppc.html
It explains the jumpers. Do note that the jumpers are surface mounted stuff, requiring some delicate soldering.

You're welcome.
web.archive.org is a nice place to find old 'dead' websites.

Remember the voltage jumper also. (move it in the 3.3 volt position) In PM for the clock jumper.

WAIT-WAIT

you have a strange config . . . 80 Mhz for the 040

Post a picture of the board, or you'll fry something

mmm ... no problem with volt, it is under the micro and i do know i have to change it so that i can i fry some eggs :-) on the 060 ...

what i have to do after replacing 68k is to tell the board to get rid of the 80 mhz crystal (it was for the 040 that gets half the speed), and get it to 50 mhz by changing jumpers

following the davem website instructions jumpers are named as 1-2-3-4-5-6
my 68040@40/PPC@200 jumper config is: 3-5-6 right and 4 left - 68040 with left crystal 80 mhz and PPC with centre crystal at 50 mhz

i want to force 68k to take the central crystal at 50 mhz
and i think i have to move 5-6 jumpers to the left position as follows in website example (not sure):-?

thanks for helping! :-D

ah ok . . . . much more clear now!  you said:

"my config is 68040 taking from 1st oscillator 80 mhz and (broken) PPC taking from 50 mhz 2nd oscillator"

Oscillator 1 can't be 80 Mhz (oscillator 1 is the first on the right top)! and 50 Mhz for PPC?

Sorry i can't help :-( too much responsability if something goes wrong.

EDIT- if you want real help, post a picture to avoid misunderstandings.

@FrAmiga

don't worry, you are refering to the same oscillator (the 3rd one). The 2nd one should be a 50Mhz one and the third one I guess that it will be a 66Mhz one.

@Puppy:

Ey tio! ;-)
"6:- 68K clock source, Oscillator 2 (default), oscillator 3 (alternative). System devices continue to be clocked from oscillator 2 when alternative is selected. "

You should change the 6th jumper located near the simm slots, near the edge of the board.

Be careful and check twice that you are changing the right capacitor.

I hope you assemble your A4000T soon so I can meet you at Euskal Party ;-)
