Title: protected cd and secondspin
Post by: amiga4001 on June 25, 2005, 02:32:03 PM
So I have me a music cd and tried to play it in the hifi system no problem.
But I wanted to make mp3 files out of it so I could also play it on my computer.
Normally secondspin recognizes the cd automatically through the net but this one not!
It does see a audio cd but not the right one.
Also the tracks are all the same (about 10s)and there is I believe one big file.
So encooding is not possibble here.
On the workbench it appears as a cdda and as a data file.
The data contains a player for pc I believe.
There is also a label on the cd saying bmg-copycontrol.
Any way to still convert these tracks to the amiga?
Not with help of a pc off course

Hi

Normally copy protected music cd consist's of two sessios with the windows/mac player located on the 2'nd session and the song's on session one.

On my Amiga I use a FastATA 4k and when I insert a cd with two sessions there will always pop up two icons on my workbench. I can then choose session one or two easily. I use allegro cdfs and I have no prb's with that.

'Normally secondspin recognizes the cd automatically through the net but this one not!'

I guess this is because secondspin only sees the second session and not the actually songs.

I have not yet come across a cdda that I couldnt make mp3's off so it is possible.

Have you tried to double click on the cdda icon on the workbench, this is what I do..... if you use opus you will see that the directory listing will change when you choose one of the two icons on your workbench and then update the list in opus.

Keep in mind that if you have a 060 making mp3's will take a looong time. But if you cannot access session one with you system you can always use clonecd and make a copy of only the first session and then make the mp3's on your Amiga ;)

Ok when I insert this protected cd I get me the cdda and the other partition (audio:).
When I double click it it doesn't play but when I inset a normal cd it does and after playing an other audio cd it does play the protected audio cd.
Second spin does recognize the right tracklengths then.
But it doesn't recognize the ttitle.
Also the leeching and decoding only takes place for about 10 s of music per track.
Using cacheCDFS here.
Is there a way to hardcopy the tracks to HD as AIFFS?
If that would help that is or should I try an other cd filesystem?

Hi

'When I double click it it doesn't play but when I inset a normal cd it does and after playing an other audio cd it does play the protected audio cd.'

I don't know why this happens.

'Second spin does recognize the right tracklengths then.
But it doesn't recognize the ttitle.'

Are you sure that this cd is registred at Freedb ? If it's not you won't get the titles for the songs.

'Also the leeching and decoding only takes place for about 10 s of music per track.'

That's strange, I have never had these prb's....

'Is there a way to hardcopy the tracks to HD as AIFFS?'

Yes, you can copy these track's using Dopus - but you must first have access to the first session. Try to open Dopus and get the directory listing for you cd device. If you see the player and so on on the listing, choose the other icon of this cd on your workbencen and then update the list in Dopus and simply copy the songs over to your hdd.

This is what I do but I don't know if your cd contains a brand new copyprotection that stops it from working.

'If that would help that is or should I try an other cd filesystem?'

I really don't know, I have only used Allegrocdfs from Elbox...works for me.
