Title: What hardware do I need for that
Post by: Emufreak on June 25, 2005, 12:15:20 PM
I want to buy a really old, cheap Laptop who can run this. Some Version of Linux. Some kind of GUI (It doesn't have to be KDE). PHP and Mysql with a rather small simple MYSQL-Database.
Mozilla or Firefox.

What do you think are the Minimumspec of RAM etc.

I f you're gone use dyne:bolic (http://www.dynebolic.org/), a very good live distro wich is optimized to run on slower computers you are gone need at least a pentium I with 64MB. You can also install it on your harddisk.

Firefox is going to be the killer I think. But I'd say at least a 366 Mhz PII and 64 megs Ram. I am sure that will get you in the "cheap" catagory with a laptop. There are some cool alternate window managers like IceVW, As far as distros you might want to check out Dynebolic. I really reccomend a 500+hz. PII with 128megs. but...

Yes, I use Mandrake as my main distro on my laptop and installed Dynebolic inside Mandrake. I really like Dynebolic, it's fast and got all the apps I need.

Hehe, same time same idea :D

Is this where I am suposed to say.. "Great minds think..." nawh... :-)

Dynebolic can be a bear on certain hardware configs but I think its very cool and fast.
