Title: VR at LONG LAST!!!! (I'm actually not asking a question for once)
Post by: XDelusion on June 24, 2005, 09:59:31 AM
Oh MAN! This is what I've been waiting forever for. I know the technology has been there, but the price for a decent head set that you don't have to hack the crap out of to make work correctly, has always been at last $1000 and up.
So far they've not stated a price on this, but I'm expecting it to be somewhat cheap considering the price of small flat color screens these days.
This works with all game consoles as well as the PC, so I'm sure it does not require any sort of drivers and therefore should work with the Amiga (I'd guess) so long as you have VGA output of some sort. Of course we only have a handful of FPS's to use this with, none the less, maybe it will open the door and provoke some blokes to write up some more to use with this puppy! :)

I hope really cheap, I've been dying for VR for a VERY long time. I'm shocked no one else in the gaming world has ever seemed to care.

Xdelusion:  other companies in the world refuses to jump in on something like this for many reasons but one of the main ones are because of lawsuits and other things.

have you ever tried cheap {bleep} vr stuff? , you get motionsickness , ala the way u get sick in a car or a boat...just about 10 times faster and worse..

i love it..but i cant play with it for hours though i played with one in hannover some years ago and that one was awesome, no motion sickness or whatever and most of all no blurry visions while moving fast...but that thing costed like 50.000 usd ..just for the googles..

yep, those cheap head sets will do that to you. That's why serious players have always had to invest hard cash in order to get a decent set.

It claims to have 320x240 resolution and a view equivelent to 35 inch display viewed at 7 foot distance.

320x240 on a 35 inch display at that distance is going to look quite pixellated I imagine...

is "virtually" (or perception of) as 35 inch display viewed at 7 foot distance!

Our brain "perceives"(?) as it would be . . .

I'm also hoping to see these kind of devices become more affordable, it would be just the thing to get me interested in games again. As it is I can't see how people can keep getting excited about the latestandgreatest games on the same old display and controls. I want the futuristic stuff...

Yep, I've been dying for this for about 20 years now, the same time I've been waiting on Land Of The Dead. ;)

I hope the display kind of curves around your head a bit, so that you sort of have the illustion of field of vision as well.

I have only heard good things about their OLEDs.

Ya, those IO Glasses or what ever they call them are not very good, they are ment for business guys on a plane or what ever, who want to work in private, or wan't to be able to hold there head back.

This other brand you mention sounds VERY interesting, but alas, they are still using old skool prices. I'm waiting for a quality set for $300.00 if possible, maaayyyybeeee $400.00 at most.
