Greetings!
You must be wondering why a great actor like me has decided to join the site. Well, before you ask, yes, it is me, Ted Danson, the actor who played Sam Malone in Cheers and starred in films such as Three Men and a Baby, Three Men and a Little Lady, Gulliver's Travels, Loch Ness and Saving Private Ryan.
Why have I joined an amiga site I hear you ask? Well, since the late 1980's, i've had a love for these machines and even now with state-of-the art pc's, I still prefer to use my A1200. Let's face it, people, Amigas are far better than PC's.
Even though i'm getting on a bit (i'll be 58 at the end of December), I still love computers and I love using my amiga when I get some spare time to myself at home. Nothing like a good beer or a good cup of coffee while playing Doom on your amiga.
Anyway, I must leave. My wife Mary wants to use the computer. Feel free to ask questions about my career if you wish. If not, just chat to me about amigas, just as you would do with everyone else.
Best Wishes Everyone,
Ted Danson (aka Sam "Mayday" Malone from "Cheers")

Yeah, something like that :-D
-
Whilst I have no real basis for my scepticism, I kinda find it hard to believe that Ted Danson would join a pulblic forum under his real name, my guess would be that he would us an alias of some description.
Anyways, if it really is the Ted Danson, well then, here's a big welcome from downunder :-) Cheers ;-) :pint:

Why does Dick Van Dyke never stop by? Maybe he does under an alias.
Hey Ted! Next time you see Dick get the old Dyke to logon to amiga.org for a chat. :-)

Dick's an atari fan.

He used Amiga's and lightwave according to this (http://www.jimhillmedia.com/mb/articles/printer_friendly.php?ID=1036)
It was the first google hit i got.

Damn, I was mixing him up with some other Dick...

One reason for my skepticism (other than adz eariler suggestion) is that surely the real Ted Danson doesn't need to reel off (pardon the pun) his roles like this ;-) Unless, that is, we happen to have a whole bunch of movie producers lurking around here too

Take a look at this:
http://amiga.emugaming.com/af/af084.html (http://amiga.emugaming.com/af/af084.html)
Andrea Ball takes a trip to Watford to talk to Ira Curtis Coleman about his latest film project, Lock Ness starring Ted Danson, and how the Amiga plays a part in his films.
After a quick search, it seems that Amigas has been used in alot of Ted Danson`s movies/series.
So if it`s really him then Cheers :pint:
But as most people here, i remain sceptic
:-)
-
Yes, it really is me, I can assure you. I want to share your love for Amigas.
As has already been mentioned, Amigas were used rather than PC's when I was filming Loch Ness, and I thought this was a fantastic idea.
As for Dick van Dyke joining the site, I'll try and contact him if I can, although I don't know him as well as other people do. Anyway, I think he's an Atari fan.
Best wishes to you all,
Ted Danson.

As I said, I really have no grounds to doubt you, but I myself just find it hard to believe a movie star would even care about our little community. I guess if you could get me an autographed photo of Shawnee Smith I might find it a lot easier to believe you :-D
-
I'll get you an autographed photo, adz. Just give me your address and i'll make sure that one gets sent to you.
Best Wishes,
Ted Danson
-
Hi Ted and welcome to A.org!
I was wondering if you could shed some light on a question that's been bothering me for quite a while now.
Is it true that you and Steve Guttenberg are just friends?
-
Well, I used to (or still love) Cheers.. Still listen to the theme :-)
Not wanting to sound to sceptical as well, what have you been up to lately ? Hardly hear anything about you in Europe ? Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but I mostly follow girls... :-D
-
Yes. Me and Steve Guttenberg are just friends.
I'm still doing various bits and pieces in the USA. Most recently, I have starred in Our Fathers, which was a drama that aired on American Television, and in a comedy called The Moguls, where I played a character called Moose. I also did the voice for a character in an animation called The Magic 7.
Most of my recent work hasn't been seen in Europe, as it has been mainly American-based stuff, but hopefully more work will come along and my fans in Europe will be able to see my acting in new projects.
Best wishes,
Ted Danson
-
So Ted, are you a fan of the AmigaONE/OS4 or the PegasosII/MorphOS?
btw Do you know Jenna Jameson? Ask her if she fancies being my kept woman? ;-)
-

har har - it was "painful" getting them, but i'm happy I have them now.
anyway, a team of special effects people share the emmy. that's the way it works. the academy isn't going to go and make a dozen or so individual statues for everybody.
they already have to make about hundred or so at a shot. it's not like there's a factory in korea or something.

I must just be you cecilia :-P
Besides, its not like you came here and announced yourself as someone famous. If it is Ted Danson and he wants to talk Amiga, I'll welcome him as I would any other Amiga user, because at the end of the day, he just another person with whom I share this planet. However, if it isn't the real Ted Danson, then I'm sure the real Ted Danson wouldn't be all that happy.
-
oh, and as to the topic, when i was in LA I recall seeing Dick van Dyke at one of the many amiga/toaster meetings i would attend. I know he had a toaster and was very interested in amiga.
he had some amiga animations made for the TV show he was on at the time. (I don't remember all the details - it was a long time ago)
and, no, i didn't run up and talk to him. i'm not like that. i respect people's privacy.
-
adz wrote:

i know some people think i'm a giant egotist, but honestly, i'm just a regular person.
I'd prefer NOT to be "famous", actually.
many years ago at the start of my career I had a few illos published in a book and I was at this convention coincidently with the writer/editor of said book.
we ended up sitting at a table with people asking us to sign their copy of this book. it was a really weird feeling.
I really like being behind the scenes. I like working as the crew on a set or making special effects. it feels right to me. I like that millions have seen my work but don't know my name.
If it is Ted Danson and he wants to talk Amiga, I'll welcome him as I would any other Amiga user, because at the end of the day, he just another person with whom I share this planet. However, if it isn't the real Ted Danson, then I'm sure the real Ted Danson wouldn't be all that happy.
well, maybe not. after all, it's just a message board. it's not like anyone is asking you for money.
I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you kindly for the welcome Karlos and Speelgoedmannetje.
Adz, I just received your PM, and will be sending one back shortly.
As for operating systems, I'm more of a fan of AmigaONE/OS4 to be perfectly honest. And I don't know Jenna Jameson personally, so no luck there mdma.

hi TedDanson,
I enjoyed seeing you and your wife in Curb your Enthusiasm. That show is excellent, it makes me laugh very hard. I'd love to hear any stories you might have about working on that. Do you know if another series is in the pipeline?
:-)
Ta,

-
It was great fun working with Larry David. He's an extremely funny man and I enjoyed working with him on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
As for a new series in the pipeline, i'm pretty certain that a fifth series of the show will be filmed.
Best wishes,
Ted Danson
-
So... Is it Sumner, Jonopike or another one of CU_AMIGA's "mates"?
-
No. This is the real Ted Danson. I have absolutely nothing to do with CU_AMiGA. Anyway, who is Sumner and who is JonoPike?
If you wish Turambar, I can send you an autographed picture of myself to you. Just PM me with your name and address.
Best wishes,
Ted Danson
-
Hi,
I'm more of a fan of AmigaONE/OS4 to be perfectly honest
So maybe you would like to have a look at AmigaWorld.net (http://amigaworld.net) as well. Probably the majority of A1 users are there.
(I'm not comparing both websites, here and there. I'm just giving the information)

If you really are Ted, I pity you in this much; you'll probably have give DNA tests to convince the skeptics here :-D
Alternatively, you could show a recent picture of yourself with an amiga (if you have one handy). People like cecilia would spot a doctored photograph in seconds. I should know, even my most skilled forgery* didn't get past her
*which might have something to do with the fact it was utter bollocks, but the point must stand :-D
-
Hello Ted and wellcome :-)
Have you met Elvis recently?
-
I prefer this site to be totally honest, and although I'm a big fan of the AmigaONE system, I still prefer this site, even though most of the fans of AmigaONE are on amigaworld.net.
As for me posing for a picture with an amiga, i'll get one taken soon and i'll post it up on here for everyone to see.
Best wishes,
Ted Danson
-
Hello Ted.
Was there really a ghost caught on film in 'Three Men and a Baby' ?
-
@Ted & @Cecilia & @thread
Hi,
Actually, at the time he was going to the trade shows, Dick was principally a video toaster fan.
He had his own personal Newtek assistant at that time. If you could have seen the sparkle in his
eyes and heard his uplifting voice, you would understand that he was -extremely- enthusiastic
about his interests. He is one of the most genuinely classy and personable people in -all- of
"show business" and in the "real" world as well. I should know. Err...I do know.
Best Wishes,
#6
-
Mr Danson, can you star in my film?
You will play a mental patient with anal seepage problems who saves the world from high fibre diets!
Your character name is: Tom N. E. Crappes
:-D
-
Hi Ted, sorry if I am late to welcome you here, but welcome anyway.
So you have you introduced yourself and although this site is for people interested in Amigas and that's what mostly connects us, I see that the topic was concerned mostly about your personality, which I think you are not obliged to prove.
Can you please tell us a little more about your Amiga experience, current and past? What Amiga configuration you have (A500, A1200, A4000 or AmigaOne) with what additional cards and RAM. You said that you love
playing Doom, so it must be at least A1200 (Although I ran Doom on accelerated A600 once, but it was slow and with 32 colors only [Mostly unplayable], but now I am playing it on the AmigaOne and it works perfectly even with the Total Conversions), what Software - Operation System, kickstart ROM (1.3,2.04,3.0,3.1...),
is your Amiga connected to the Internet, what software you use for connection, what are your favourite software titles (Games, Applications, Demos). Do you like listening Amiga MOD and chip musics, watching slideshows of DPaint pictures etc...
P.S. Can I sign PM for an autograph too? I will be greatful to have one from a famous actor like yourself, so I can show it to my friends and say to them - see even he likes the AmigaOne/AmigaOS 4.
As I am a pro Amiga/AmigaOne/AmigaOS 4 user and I have no other branded computer machines in home, I will be grateful if you write something about AmigaOS 4 in it.
-
I don't believe in ghosts, so I don't believe that there was a ghost caught on the set of Three Men and a Baby, although other people that I did work with on that film were pretty sure that they saw a ghost.
As for starring in that film Amimac, I think I'll give it a miss. Playing parts like that don't really appeal to me. But thanks for asking anyway.
Best wishes,
Ted Danson
-
Hi Ted,
Welcome to Amiga.org :-)
What miggy do you have? what OS are you running?
What are your main interests in AmigaOS?
that will do for now

Now look at what you have done, soon everyone in amigaworld will know about you

Say, Ted, I was once thinking of a movie idea based on this site and a few of its more familiar members.
A seasoned actor, such as yourself, would be required to play one of our resident AROS fans in later life as he looks back on some of his youthful folly. There'd be a lot of heavy character work involved; in fact, it could prove to be a seminal role.
What do you say?
-
@Amibools:
moppets? , i am sure you mean Jim Henson's The Muppet Show.
@TedDanson
anyway welcome to Amiga.org Ted. , nice to see that youre still around.
i'd love to use your voice in one of my games (intro dialouges etc) , possible or?
btw i'd love a signed photgraph aswell , if thats possible,

Is it me, is it me!?!?!?! The thing is I always wanted Gary Oldman to play me...
@Ted
Could you get an autographed picture of you and Kelsey Grammer (Autographed by you and Kelsey) if I PM my address?

I actually had Gary Oldman down to play an older KennyR :-)

anyway, what I'm interested in is what is it you like about AmigaOne and OS4 (aside from the obvious, ie. it's amiga but faster).
I don't have an amigaone or a Micro yet but I've seen others at amiga meetings. very nice indeed. not perfect, but improving everyday. (those beta-testers are hard at work!)

I think that we should now put our speculations to rest.

I think that we should now put our speculations to rest.

Looking forward to see that picture :-)

Dear "Ted",
ahhhh, OK now.
With all those accurate specs (hard to find if they weren't true) now i'm 100% sure.
You are a real . . . FAKE.

You actually care about who he really is? What's the use of a nick then? (I take for granted your real life name isn't Framiga).
Rather judge him on his posts here, plz.

It's ripped from amigau.com (http://www.amigau.com/spock/a1200.html), typos and all...
Maybe it's Doomie in disguise, maybe it's really Ted, does it really matter?

I guess it does matter to thoose who PM'ed their home addresses. They could be in deep trouble... or they just get an autographed photo?

It's definitely someone from the UK.

I can't believe anyone was taken in by the manchild who just happens to post his own drivel around the sametime everytime a new "character" appears.
And people think Billsey needs psychiatric help. ;-)

am i understanding you right and you are using OS3.0 ?
is there any reason why you aren't using OS3.9??
the upgrade actually speeded up my amiga2000 - with no change to any hardware at all.
if i misunderstood.....nevermind!

Why are people questioning who I am? I am a fan of the amiga, and want to share your love for them.
As for the spec, it is just a co-incidence that it is the same as somebody else's. That is the spec for the Amiga that I have.
As for me being in the uk, well that must be some sort of mistake. I have some software on my computer so my I.P can change so it looks like i'm using my connection in a different country, so probably that is what the problem is.
Anyway, just keep sending your addresses and signed photos will be on the way to you. Then I can try my hardest to prove to you that I really am Ted Danson.
Best wishes,
Ted Danson

Does it really matter? I may be amongst the skeptics but frankly I see no reason anybody here should have to prove their identity just because some other member doesn't believe it.
Your handle here is TedDanson, so that's what I'm gonna call you. Well, probably Ted as it is a bit shorter and I'm a lazy bugger :-)

@ Ted Danson
Hello Ted
I'm sure that most people here are just not used to speaking with people of your fame and that's why doubt you are who you say you are.
Personally I don't care if you are Ted Danson or not, I also share your love for the AMIGA computer and personally want to welcome you to this AMIGA site regardless of all the talk on who you may/maynot be. LOL it's like kids to candy all of a sudden ;) Hey you're PR is working!
Don't let people get to you, most of the time it's all in fun and lets face it, it's not every day you get some famous TV/Hollywood star join a little fan website. Be that as it may, the more you jump in and chew the fat, the better and the more AMIGA gets people joining up the more chance it has of making a comeback.
I'd also love an autographed pic, not for any other reason apart from I loved Becker. Cool show ;) Mind you, the eye candy isn't bad either lol you got to play with Terry Farrell ;) nice one bud ;)
-
This thread is a hoot! :-)

What?? Like a parcel containing a picture of sumner boning the pike-miester, the pike-miester boning CU and CU boning a fluffy white rabbit? Hmmmm, I guess that *would* be in violation of our pornography laws

So, did anyone receive their signed photo?
If it WAS Ted Danson, which I personally doubt, he is probably regretting registering on this site!

We all are, nothing wrong with that..

Well, at least it's not some old crappy Atari, Spectrum, C64 or what else I couldn't tell you.
Yeah!

Sure is a lot easier being a BJJones than a TedDanson. Nobody doubts WHO I am, they just can't figure out WHAT I am. :-)
Oh and Hi Cyberus, long time no see!
-
I've managed to take time out from my busy schedule to talk to you guys. Sorry I haven't been around much the last couple of weeks.
I'll make sure that each and every one of you that has requested a signed photo will receive one. Just give me a month or so and by then they should all be sent out.
I am extremely sorry about the wait, it's just that I've been a very busy man lately.
Best wishes,
Ted Danson

 Sorry. I just couldn't resist.

So is this thread dead? Or has it evolved?Or is Ted Ded? LOL.

Even though i'm getting on a bit (i'll be 58 at the end of December), I still love computers and I love using my amiga when I get some spare time to myself at home. Nothing like a good beer or a good cup of coffee while playing Doom on your amiga.
Oh no! It's the famous Doommaster!
(And he wants all of your addresses. Watch out...)
