Post by: Amigamia on June 22, 2005, 12:58:29 AM
There was a Kickstart ROM 3.5 from Amiga Technologies?? I have seen it and unless someone modified the code, it is not a fake.

There have been software patches for the ROM which get loaded resident with the SetPatch command. Oh and the Walker had some  kind of new ROM.

You mean there's physical stamp on the chip itself? Not just a paper label?

No this is a ROM file. This is what it says inside the file:

Amiga RAM Operating System and Libraries Copyright © 1985-1996 Amiga Technologies All Rights Reserved. 3.5 ROM exec 40.11 (11.1.96)

I'm not sure what you think that is supposed to prove? Try comparing it to a 3.1 rom.

Nope, it's a fake.
Someone took a 3.1 rom image, hacked some strings about and redid the checksum.

I have examined the file, and while I don't think it's anything but a hacked 3.1. It does seem to have the cybergraphx library resident inside of it.. I maybe wrong about this, but I wish someone with a real copy of this, not reading what someone else wrote would prove me wrong ;-)

Maybe there's a second 3.5 floating about?

Donny and Amigamia,if you've still got the image, can you download RomSplit (http://www.doobreynet.co.uk/files/remus/RomSplit_082.lha)
and run it through RomSniff (found in Tools) and post the output for us?

Edit: forgot to say, just the resident list..no need for the reloc data.

I knew the engineer Robert at Amiga Technologies Australia and he claimed to have patched the ROM with latest files in software and re-burnt the rom image to eproms so they didn't need to be loaded from software.

I don't know how true this is, but it may explain your situation here. As far as LEGAL un modifed kickstart roms go, 3.1 was the latest developed for 1200, 4000 etc.

As for non legal, I'd love a burnt pair of 3.5 eproms ;))))
Pitty Amiga tech closed their doors too. No money in AMIGAs anymore, parts are getting harder and harder to find, and boards are only getting older.

I never got a chance to buy these 3.5 ROMs so I can't claim anything I have said is truth.

Have a look at this: http://www.gregdonner.org/workbench/wb_b32_40.html

OS3.5 was shipped in 1999. The above stuff would have been more believable if it said something like:
Amiga ROM(not RAM) Operating System and Libraries Copyright © 1985-1996 Amiga Technologies All Rights Reserved. 3.2 ROM exec 43.x (11.1.96)

Amiga tech mostly used v43.x numbers, and this was for the Kick/WB 3.2 intended for the Walker. I'm guessing the word 'RAM' (if you haven't just misspelled something here) is intended to reveal the fakeness of the file for a trained eye, while still fooling others.
