Hi All,
Where can I obtian the new installer v44.10 (as opposed to the readily availble version 43.3)?
The reason I need this particular version is the fact that I get this message when I try to install a WHDLoad enabled game:
"Warning: your installer is outdated. Some features of this installtion won't be available, such as icon show and drawer opening. You have version 43.3, recommended is version 44.10. The 'installer' 44.10 comes with OS 3.5 but is also contained in the NDK 3.9. You may also use the InstallerNG by Jens Troger."
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-
I think you can only get it on the OS3.5, OS3.9 and OS3.9 NDK CDs unfortunately.
I checked Aminet (http://www.aminet.net) but it's not on there.
There might be an alternative thought (InstallerNG?)

The 3.9 NDK is freely distributable. See this (http://os.amigaworld.de/index.php?lang=en&page=12) page at amigaworld.de.
-
Thanks. I am going to try there.
-
Ah yeah, I forgot about that site :-)
-
I have downloaded all the versions (iNG_usr, NDK3.9 and InstallerNG), none of them work. The NDK3.9's installer gives me error message. The other packages do not have an installer (just install icon)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are getting the same error make sure the icon on the game installer points to the new one.
I had a problem a while back when I had two different versions of installer on my hd - one in c: and another in sys:tools I think.
Do a search on your HD to make sure there's only one version on your hd.
-
Ah, thanks for the links chaps - I did not realise there was
an updated installer available, and it still works on OS3.0/3.1.
And this is freely distributable, so I can bundle it within the AIAB archive - lovely.
Does anyone have a changelog from the old v43 installer (on Aminet) to this version?
Cheers,
James

How do I do that?
None of these packages has a file called "Installer", just "Install" icon. When I rename this file to "Installer" (yeah, I am very frustrated so I will try anything), even though it seems to get "fooled" and see it as an Installer, it freeze the whole system and I have to reboot.
Question:
Does WHDLoad even support OS lower than 3.1? (I am emulating an Amiga 600 with OS 2.1)
Thanks again.
-
Click on the "install" icon once then go to Icon -> Information in the menu - or just press Righ-Amiga and I.
In the new window there should be something like "default tool" with Installer written next to it.
Change Installer to c:\installer
Or change it to wherever you put the Installer (44.10).
--edit--
I just realised you're emulating an A600. What emulator are you using?
I don't think the 44.10 Installer will work with anything less than 3.0. If you're emulating, it might be an idea to emulate a 3.0 or 3.1 Amiga instead. That way you will get the game installed no problem.
The good thing about WHDLoad is it has certain fixes that make the older games run under 3.0 or 3.1 anyway, so you could emulate that all the time without having to change back to 2.1 to play the installed games.

Thanks for the info. Does it mean that my real Amiga 600HD also can not use this new installer then? (since it has OS 2.1)
I tried emulating it on WinUAE first to see if it works, then try it on my real Amiga 600HD.

@ Codehunter
I ran into exactly the same problem. There was a thread about it here. (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=10666)

Thanks, let me read it then.

InstallerNG
InstallerNG, when extracted, only extracs a file called InstallerNG.info and a sub-folder called InstallNG.
Inside this sub-folder, there is a file called Install and even more sub-directories (c, catalogs, dveloper, etc.)
Inside the c sub-folder, there are InstallerNG.000, InstallerNG.020 and debug file.
Where is this Installer then?
NDK3.9
This package when extracted, creates a sub-folder called tools, and although it has a file called Installer, it won't work, it simply freezes my system.
I conclude that WHDLoad is NOT compatible with Amiga 600 (OS 2.1).
What a shame, I specifically searched eBay for Amiga HD system to utilise this. Oh well.
I can always copy over all of my adf floppy files to Amiga, but unfortunately its take approx 3 minuts for a 880K floppy disk image to copy from PC to Amiga. I guess I have to live with all these limitations. or buy a Amiga 1200.
:-?
-
And what about renaming "InstallerNG.000" to "Installer"?
Sorry if its nonsense but you can always try it
-
It freezes the system.

Yes it is. I have WHDLoad on my A600 (Kickstart 2.05 v37.300, Workbench 2.1.

This is what happens:
InstallerNG extracted to Workbench:
http://members.cox.net/stooryani/Installer_01.jpg
InstallerNG error:
http://members.cox.net/stooryani/Installer_02.jpg
There is a install icon in the C folder (the information reads as c:\installerng.000.
The game installer also reads c:\installerng.000.
When I click on game install, it says it can't find the installer.
