I have Amiga OS 3.9 running on an A1200 that I softkick to 3.1 (ROM from my CD32).
Fired up this evening and the HD boots, installs the ROM update, reboots and then sits at the puple 'inserting disk' animation. I have booted from floppy and changed the startup-sequence to remove the softkick and it boots.
I have changed the startup-sequence to use Bick from my usual blizzkick, with the same results.
As a further test:
- Booted A1200 with both mouse buttons down. Hard disk partitions show in the boot devices list.
- Boot with HD - it resets. Hold down both mouse buttons.
- Early startup no longer shows the HD partitions
- Allow to boot - purple animation screen shows that I am using Kickstart 3.1 (hardware verson is 3.0)
This has been working for the last few days - did a rebuild last weekend. No changes since the last boot though.
Any ideas? Thanks.

If your HDD is smaller than 4GB, change the OS3.9 startup-sequence to read SetPatch QUIET SKIPROMUPDATES "scsi.device".

Working now.
Thanks. I had prepped this disk especially for the MAG meeting in Coventry tomorrow and getting frustrated that it wasn't working!
