Title: Squirrel SCSI Problems
Post by: bubba on June 12, 2005, 02:04:34 AM
I cannot get a Squirrel SCSI PCMCIA SCSI adapter and Apple 600e 4x CD-ROM to work on my A1200.   I've installed the Squirrel drivers version 1.12 and have the CD drive terminated with an active terminator.

When I run the installer, the Squirrel Tool does not see the CD-Drive.  I changed the Dev/DosDevices/CD0 device info to use the same unit number as the CD.  CD0 mounts but I get an error if I try to list/dir the contents.  I am using the cd.device for CD0.

I cannot tell if I have a problem with the SCSI PCMCIA card, the Apple CD, my Amiga, or the software install.  Can someone recommed a tool I could use to probe the Squirrel Adapter to see if it is OK.  I don't have any other SCSI devices to rule out the CD drive.

BTW, this is the first time I have used either the Squirrel adapter and the CD, so one or both of them could possily be bad.

Thanks for the help,

-Bubba

It's been a lot of years since I sold my squirrel scsi (which I wish I hadn't done, btw.)  But if memory serves me correctly, the squirrel tool was about useless, so I wouldn't put much faith into what it says.  I think I used to use a version of HDToolBox with the scsi.device line replaced with squirrelscsi.device for listing info.

I think you just stated your own problem.  Try replacing that line with 'squirrelscsi.device'.  I think the cd.device was part of a CD32 emulation program that was a right pain in the butt, never did work very well, and conflicted with OS 3.5 and above.

The squirrel SCSI is great, but you have to fly by the seat of your pants a bit with the software and drivers.  Tinker around a bit more.  Your configuration should work.
