Can you recommend a good curry house in Manchester centre? I'll be in Manc in about 2 hours and fancy myself a right good curry. Patching things up with the missus meal if you will.
-
Manchester centre is not really the place, you need to head to Rusholme's (in)famous "curry mile".
Fortunately, this is a doddle to get to from the city centre (Simply head south along Oxford Road). Not more than 5-10 mins really.
Once there, the choice is quite something.
Overall the standard is quite good but personally I always found Sanam and Al Bilal the best places to eat in. The former does not serve alcohol (or allow it on the premesis) however.
Other places worth a look are Tabak (which does Nepalese food) and Hanaan which is a bit 'posher' looking but the food is no better than the others.
-
Actually, there are some excellent (food quality) small take outs in back Picadilly but not the place for a proper eat in meal with the missus.
I'm sure GadgetMaster can reccomend some good spots too; this guy knows his curry :-)

That too :-D

Mmmmm, I wonder what they had. Damn I could just fancy a curry now!

Thats one thing Austalia seems to lack, Indian take aways, I love curry, but I just can't seem to find a decent place. We have a lot of Chinese resaurants and most of them do a few curry dishes, but there isn't much of a variety. We have heaps of Greek taverns and there seems to be an unnatural abundance of pizza and pasta joints. Another food I like is Mexican and there is a really nice Mexican restaurant 5 minutes from my place, anyways, best of luck with the missus mdma.

@adz, Karlos, and Vincent
Thanks.
We ended up missing the train (So we could have a drink), so we had an english meal locally then went out and got wasted. :-D
Hopefully we will go out in Manc on Saturday, but she works weekends so might not.
I really fancy a Nepalese now though, so might go on my own! :-)

Strangely enough, given that I'm a complete bevvy-monster who rarely goes a night without a beer, neither of my two favourite Glasgow curry houses sell alcohol.
My favourite is The Anarkali, (tandoori sizzler - heaven) which does allow you to bring your own alcohol. To be fair, I usually do take a couple of beers with me when I go there.
The other one, The Village Curry House, (barbecued lamb chops - mmmmmm..) doesn't allow it on the premises.

I really like Sanam. One of the reasons (as far as I know) they don't sell or allow alcohol is that they cater for the local asian population (which is majority muslim) rather than drunken students which frequent many of the other places along the mile. Consequently the emphasis is on the quality of the food, which has to be up to the standard expected by the locals and not simply ultra hot larger busters :-)
They do a chick pea salad that is one of the most interesting sundries ever. Refreshing, sweet, sour and hot in equal quantities :-D

My missus does the best chick pea salad you have ever tasted. Genuine Indian recipe followed to the letter. Yummy. :-)

The Village is exactly the same.
It was a Muslim mate who first took me there. In fact I still usually go there when I'm with him.
He does occassionaly drink too. :pint:

Hpefully she'll be speaking to me again by tommorow (Trust me to pick the time of the month to take her out! What was I thinking?), and i'll post the recipe for you.
It's just chickpeas and chillies and yoghurt or summat i think, but it tastes divine.
-
Nice one. My girlfriend loves just about anything with chillies in it. :-)
-
@mdma
Post it here, matey :-D

Will do, just nursing a severe hangover at the moment . I always get them two days later now. Very odd.

Ouch!
I'm in the incredibly rare position of having DJ-ed last night and then actually come home after only a few beers.
I was tucked up in my bed for 5 a.m - most unusual. My normal behaviour is to go to a party and stay there until at least the next afternoon which, while fun, does leave one feeling rather hungover.
I'm pretty chipper, all things considered.
The great thing is, I can now go and get properly drunk as I watch that mighty footballing nation of giants, Moldova, take the brave Scottish team to pieces.
I actually bumped into one of the Moldova players on Wednesday, as they were getting off their team bus in the city centre. Didn't know who they were until I saw the back of their track suits.
Should've booted him in the ankle, eh? Give our boys a sporting chance. :-P

Sound better than a "bring your Miggy/Peg/A1" type meeting.
Booze, Fags, Birds, Curry. Proper night out! ;-)
-
I can see it leading to a new site: "Curries of amiga.org" :-D
-
@Karlos:
I read that as "Curse of amiga.org" :-D
I actually went to the Anarkali on Saturday (reasonably common occurrence), after watching Scotland win a football match.(Never been known to happen in recorded history... well, feels like that sometimes.)

Moldova must be feeling really crap.
Bet they're to embarrased to go home :-P
-
Perhaps they all visited the local curry house and were told to have a 'lovely, refreshing and mild mangaloo' by some evil scotland supporting waiter :-D
You try playing football with a gut full of napalm...
-
Wilse, if you see the Italian team on the 3rd September before the match make sure you point them towards the nearest curry house ;-)

Now we're talking! :-D
-
Ok, it's official then.
We should have an amiga.org curry night :-D Perhaps a few concurrent ones - Manchester, Glasgow, Sydney :-D

OK, maybe not.

Peckham...

Depends hot hot the curry is. We might not have a choice. :-D
-
Mangaloo*. Turning the human rectum in to the worlds' first organic scramjet...
(*as far as I know, a uniquely northern/scottish variety of insanely hot curry, not to be confused with magmaloo which is basically what comes after)

Well, we are just south of the Pacific Ring of Fire :-P
