Title: GVP Simms

I just picked up an A1200 turbo card.
Its a GVP Jaws 030 @ 40mhz.
It call for GVP 64 pin simms.
Has anyone found a replacement for these
EXPENSIVE GVP memory chips.

Also, can they be mixed and matched ?
I have 2 '1' meg chips and 1 '4' meg chip.
Can I use a 1 meg and a 4 meg for a total of
5 megs ?

It's been a long time but as I recall you cannot mix SIMMS on a GVP card. I know you could not on the old SCSI / RAM cards back in the A2000 days.

I,ve only recently bought an A1200, so I'm no expert but the users guide for a GVP A1230 Turbo+ series II states "The A1230 Turbo+ can use GVP's 1MB,4MB or 16MB SIMM32 modules in any combination. When combining SIMMs of different capacities, however, the SIMM with the highest memory capacity MUST always be installed in SIMM Socket #1". I hope that's of some help.

There is a "hack" file on Aminet. I do not warrant this file.

This is an article written by Pascal Janin about how to
modify a standard 72-pin 1MB or 4MB SIMM to fit onto a GVP
accelerator board.
It consists of a Prowrite text file and several IFF drawings.
It is written in French.  An English translation of the text
is provided as well.
The article was published in the French magazine "AmigaNews"
(March 1996 issue).  I'm uploading this on the behalf of the
author.
