What is the best know Amiga game?
That people who has abandon Amiga may recognize.
Like Super Mario does for Nintendo.
What games does that for Amiga?
Why I ask?
I have an Amiga emulator for my Xbox and I can't deside what music the emulator should play.
And... ...I want music from the best know Amiga game.
For most effect it should be one of the real break through games for Amiga 500 or maybe a unque game for the Amiga that no other platform hade at that time.
-
Hmm, how about:
Shadow of the Beast
Awesome
Agony
.. pretty mucn any Psygnosis game actually :)
-
Well, I would say that the only games I hear non-AMiGA users talk about here in Sweden are... Moonstone, Super Cars II and, uhm, Ports Of Call?
Don't know why it is like this... I don't find either of them anything but dated and badly coded... well, Ports Of Call still holds up rather well, but not the other two.
Some few talks about Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies aswell, but seldom never titles...
-
Moonstone rules :) is a bit buggy though.
other games that last are Oil Imperium and Manager.
-Alien Breed
-Another World
-Wings
-
Lemmings
Wings
Worms
Slamtilt
Superfrog
-
I'd have to say the Lemmings series, though many may not connect it to the Amiga. Its the first game that pops into my head when I am asked to name an Amiga game.
Wings, it came from the desert are two others that are Amiga greats too.
-
Superfrog (lucozade rules)
Speedball
Shadow of the beast
Alien Breed series
Lemmings series
-

That's a good selection :)
I'd add Speedball2, Chaos Engine, and ArmourGeddon.. also Awesome was one of my all time favourites. Speaking of which, what about Hybris? Classic vertical scrolling shooter fun!
-
Chaos Engine
Indy 4
Superfrog
Heimdall 1 & 2
Pinball Dreams, Pinball Fantasies
and many more...
-
Thanks I think I'll go with:
Speedball 2
Chaos Engine
Moonstone
Pinball Illusion
Alien Breed
Lemmings
...and all the rest :-D .
-
Most known game? I'd have to say Lemmings or Shadow of the Beast. Perhaps that Crown of Whatever medieval game in the early days--the Cinemaware one with Jim Sachs art.
Most memorable music? Lemmings, hands down. It drills into your brain like a parasite and lays its eggs.
Lemmings 2 has better music, though.
-
Hey, you all forgot Giana Sisters!
It's a classic even though it's a rip-off.
-
Defender of the Crown
Hybris
F18 Interceptor (top gun-like theme tune!! yeah!)
Arkanoid / Crystal Hammer
Lemmings
Settlers
Cannon Fodder
Zool was supposed to be the sega hedgehog buster!
and if you are looking for music: Xenon II - Megablast
-
How about cinemaware games ?
They all contributed to the success of the Amiga
Think Defender of the crown, Simbad, Wings, and many others
(if i remember there were also: it came from desert, the three stooges, rocket ranger, any other idea ??)
Great other games not mentioned were: starray, f18 interceptor, test drive, lemmings, ports of call..
About cinemaware games: oldies are all free downloadable on the cinemaware site, thanks them all !!
-
Supercars II.
-
Though.. many Amiga games are remembered by their authors. Team 17,
DMA Design, Magnetic Fields, Teque, Bitmap Brothers...
-
Psygnosis !!
-
Syndicate
Rainbow Islands
Parasol stars
Fire & Ice
Deluxe Pacman (Freeware)
Hired Guns
Trooper
-
I agree with Tahoe, Xenon 2 featured music from Bomb The Bass so was quite a cult thing on Amiga. Funny, I don't remember Xenon 2 being converted to Sega/Nintendo machines, could be wrong though.
Other great music comes from Stardust and Super Stardust, very famous Amiga games.
Monkey Island is another A-list title with atmospheric tunes!
:-)
-
The Xenon 2 music pretty much sums up my A500 experience. :-)
But strangely enough I don't recall Monkey Island having any music!
-
Giana on the amiga is worse than the C64 version IMHO.
-
Yeah!, Xenon II was ported/available on the sega megadrive and believe it or not,The master system.
Trooper
-
Yeah, I second Lemmings. That's the first thing I thought of. I also second the sentiment that it may not connect non-Amigans to the Amiga, just that it's a game people will remember. Most non-Amigans don't know (or care) that some games originated on the Amiga.
-
Giana on the amiga is worse than the C64 version IMHO.
Just like Defender of the Crown. :-(
-

Also PLAYABLE on the site! :-D
-
in random order:
Jim Power
Great giana sisters
Turrican 1,2,3
Agony
Slamtilt
T-Zero
Bubble heroes
Simon the sorcerer 1
Monkey island 1+2
Capital punishment (but too bloody hard)
Super frog
Project X
Hybris
Battle Squadron
Lemmings 1,2,3
Walker
Mr Nutz
Crossfire 2 (lovely music and orginal)
Super Stardust
Pinball dreams + fantasies + illusions
Xtreme racing
Wasted dreams
Defenders of the crown 1+2
Super cars 1+2
Wings
Rocket Ranger
Tales of Tamar
Bubba and stix
And MAAAAAAAAAANY more
in other words ..too many to mention and its unfair to say "that game is best" ...etc.
-
count zero: yes...and so is last ninja 2 , remix and 3.
and several others too.
though still good games!.
-
ProjectX from Team 17, hard to play, but also good gfx and sfx :-)
But Xenon2 and Speedball are my favourites too.
-
Interesting question...
I think that the game *most* associated with the Amiga is Speedball 2.
People remember different games as being typical Amiga games depending on the era... it could be Moonstone, Chaos Engine, Worms, Superfrog, Zool, Pinball Dreams/Fantasies - all of them were popular at their respective times.
Other ones that I'd suggest are Xenon and Weird Dreams - as these were featured on one of the Saturday morning UK childrens TV shows ("Get Fresh", IIRC) - very impressive stuff for the time!
There's an Amiga section in the "Retro" magazine this month (or whatever its frequency is; the issue that's in WH Smith now!) which mentions a few of the favourite/famous Amiga games. Can't for the life of me remember what they were, though...
-
Here are some that weren't mentioned:
Ruff'n'Tumble
Virocop
Brian the Lion
All had incredibly nice graphics, sound, and gameplay. Never released on any platforms other than Amiga.
-
I liked
F18 Interceptor
King Quest v
Dudgeon Master
Zool
-
Without Doubt the following games,
The Monkey Island Series.
Wings
Prince Of Persia
Robocod
Lotus Turbo Challenge
And The Indiana Jones Adventure Games
.................
Oh and Benefactor
-
TURRICAN II!
-

simon the sorcerer
 and on and on and on
dont forget about all those games that bundled with mashines like zool,diggers\oscar etc
adonay:-D
-
Awesome game. Excellent graphics, catchy tunes and you got to destroy stuff. I'd say the best games were Gods and Cannon Fodder.
P.S If anyone owns STUN Runner get the WHDLoad patch for it. On a 68030 with fast memory it actually becomes quite playable.

CodePoet! I wish you wouldn't do that...
... some people only have 2MB of ChipMem ya know!
:-D
-
The most known Amiga game at least here is Sensible Soccer. I remember when entering a computer club some years back, all the Amigas were running Sensible Soccer and it was played almost all day long, with few exceptions to other games. It's still popular even today. Sensible Soccer was released on other platforms as well, but it didn't get that popular there, by my experience.
-
Everyone I knew loved EA's Marble Madness..
-
I`m not much for platform games
but PPHammer had really nice sound
Gods was also nice
But that game that smooths my soul is COLONIZATION
sid meier rulez
-
Well, the "BEST KNOWN" amiga games would most likely not be my favourites.. :-P But i would say:
Sensible Soccer
Turrican series
Monkey Island I & II
Moonstone
Shadow of the beast
Another world
Lemmings
And
North & South
Well..
-
so many Amiga games ended up ported to the vastly more popular 16bit consoles, so its bloody hard coming up with an exclusive that's also well known.
Personally, I think the hiscore music from -Risky Woods- is pretty damn good.
-
When I ever think of Lemmings I think PC.
For me the games I think of when I think Amiga are:
Flashback
Zool, II
Worms
Chaos Engine
srg
-
The games that are really Amiga-ish, are:
Settlers
Cannon Fodder (2)
Turrican (2)
Lotus (2, 3)
Supercars (2)
Speedball (2)
Gods
North&South
Shadow of the Beast
Chaos Engine
Alien Breed (2, 3d)
Monkey Island (2)
Defender of the Crown
Moonstone
Xenon 2
Zool (2)
Superfrog
But for the "Icon of the Amiga" I'd say Guybrush Threepwood from Monkey Island
(That game really shows what the Amiga is: a game computer, rather than a gameconsole - point 'n click with mouse and savegame ability)
-
That's one tricky question considering how good alot of public domain efforts were back in the Amiga's hey-day. But I'm gonna give it a shot anyways :-P
*Turrican series
*Last Ninja 2
*Alien Breed series
*Worms The Director's Cut (If you're gonna list it, then why not the definitive version? )
*Leisure Suit Larry 1 (Remake; I have the theme as a ringtone!)
*Bloodnet
*R-Type
*Shadow Fighter CD32 (The intro music was pretty atmospheric)
*Syndicate
*Superfrog
*Robocop 3
*Flashback
*Cruise For A Corpse
*Beneath A Steel Sky CD32 (In my opinion the definitive)
And most of the games mentioned above my post
-
Zool or Lemmings!
-
all mentioned before, but you asked. :)
-Gunship 2K
-Alien Breed - TA
-Settlers
-MI 1+2
-UFO - Enemy Unknown*
...and for sure Giana Sisters!
*)Enemy Unknown is still one of my favs! Played it all night long back in schooltimes.
-
FA-18 Interceptor
-
*The secret of Monkey Island
*Monkey Island 2: Lechucks Revenge
*Colonization
*Roketz
*Sensible Golf
*Super Tennis Champs
*Flight of the Amazon Queen
*Slam Tilt
*Turbo Trax
-
IMHO - ELITE and ELITE II...
for those that didn't know TURRICAN originated on an Apple ][ and was ported to the Amiga, where it was better...
I also enjoyed playing Gauntlet/Gauntlet II aswell as any RPG game that came along...
Bards Tale, the Ultima Series, Amber series, Ishtar Series, Dungeon Master Series, etc...
-
The best games:-
Syndicate
pga golf
superfrog
monkey island 1&2
fire and ice(great sountrack on cd32)
worms
but there are still to many to mention
-
Easy.... Dungeon Master
:-o
-
These were the reason for selling our 1000 and getting a 1meg 500!
Falcon
Dungeon Master
Test Drive II
Blood Money
Later
came the Shadow of the beast series
-
Ah, yes, Falcon...I wanted that so badly that I walked from Christchurch all the way to the other side of Bournemouth to buy it second hand, with the mission disk expansion. That was in the days when I was on quite low wages (IIRC it was £2.25 an hour). I paid £15 for them. I still have those originals here - they have stuck with me over the years.
-
IMHO these:
Civilization
Populous
Settlers
Dune 2
Worms
Lemmings
-
Lots of the games listed are great. But the one that took me a while to remember is "Shuffle Puck Cafe" it was a air hockey game.Great intro game music was great. I played it for hours. :-D :-D
-
Lemmings
Worms
-
I would say Shadow of the Beast.
If it comes to games and amiga, this one is the equivalent of the "boing ball" as a symbol of the machine.
-
SuperFrog
-
I was a child when I played amiga and I did not have one of my own, so I was most interested in simple games with instant action.
The best game for me is Lotus 2.
The next had to be pinball dreams - turbo raketti - black crypt.
I was so afraid to play black crypt, my brother had to be with me. When he left the room, I stopped playing. :)
I never get tired of talking about old time gaming.
-
The best Amiga game for me was and still is Lotus 1.
But I think the music in Lotus 2 was very good.
Awesome has some atmosperic music too.

Well, I had one of the very first Amiga 1000's in Germany and of course, the Mindwalker melody (http://patsy.cis.rit.edu/Hardware/amiga/mindwalker/mw_long.mp3) is the best and most recognized - at least for the Amiga freaks that know this game.
Of course, the Mindwalker melodies are more than a very interesting backround surrounding. For a typical game song, I would choose the main melodie from the game GODS ... "into the wonderful" ... :-D Very good songs hat the Pinball Dreams / Pinball Fantasies tables. In those times, I found the Amiga Version of Marble Madness one of the best games for the Amiga for a long time.
-
I'd second that; Lemmings!
-
I'd say Zool and Electronic Arts however then I would be very generic.
:madashell:
-
I was drawn to the amiga in the late 80's by two games: Populous and Shadow of the Beast. Everyone knew about them. Lemmings took over the crown in the later days of the Amiga.
-
Probably won't appeal to the Yanks but for me ....
Kick Off 2
:-D
-
Let's be generic again:
Gunship
Sherman (The tank)
Gods
Well, at least speaking of true quality default.
-
Doom II and Quake. LOL
-
Gotta be one of the following:
Sensible soccer
Speedball 2
Gods
Turrican 2
Super cars 2
Blood money
WINGS
Lemmings
-
TjLaZer wrote:

1) Frontier - elite 2
2) Monkey Island
3) Superfrog
-
Moonstone:A Hard Days Knight Still sells for over 120 quid on ebay if the three floppys are in the original box.
-
hired guns and elite 2
-
For me it is The Pawn. The first game that really impressed me on my new A1000.
I was kind of dissapointed about Marble Madness, my first original game for amiga (delivered with the very expensive Amiga, that was worth every penny).
Those were the days...hehe
Bent
-
u guys i forgot 1 of the best shoot em-ups SWIV & the first version i forgot whats it call..
-
The best amiga games ever i can pic is 3 :S
first out is Monkey islan 2 (But PC version is better)
second is, Aklatraz (not sure of the spelling)
third place, Moonstone : a hard days knight
fourth place is, New York warriors
:)
-
Dizzy!
I'm so Dizzy (my head is spinning- like a whirlpool, it never ends).
So, anyway. Dizzy is definitely well known on C64, Spectrum, Amiga and Atari.
So er, there.
-
som99 wrote:

:)
But the PC version is a remake.
-
There are/were so many Amiga games that I love that it is almost impossible to count them. h I miss that Amiga :(
I especially love music of Amiga games, so let me try to give you some titles with great music:
Harlequin
Gem X
Swiv
Lotus turbo challenge 2
PP hammer
Full contact
Project X
Lost patrol ( AWESOME MUSIC )
Turrican ( all parts but second especially )
-
The tunes that the bard could play in The Bards Tale bring back very good Amiga memories for me
:)
-
I can't call a single game the best for Amiga; but I can point to some of my favorite companies that made games for Amiga;
Psygnosis
Cinemaware
Bullfrog
These are my favorites. These following games bring back the most memories;
Overlord (the startegy game, not the flying game)
Lemmings
Bandit Kings of Ancient China
ANY of the Psygnosis games, because of their graphics, music and difficulty!!!!
Ed
:-D :-D :-D
-
It might be Worms by Team 17 because its sequels are still created for other platforms.
Older well recognised games are Moonstone, Turrican 2, Shadow of the Beasts, Lemmings, Sensible Soccer, Stunt Car Racer, Alien Breed...
-
Let's not forget such awesome games like Another world or even greater - Flashback by DelphiSoft ( if I remember well ).
