Title: Multifunction Home Appliances
Post by: asian1 on May 19, 2005, 11:31:36 AM
On Office Appliances, there are 5-in-1 devices: Scanner, Printer, Copier, Fax, Modem.
There is a strange 5-in-1 "Breakfast Maker":

* Oven
* Hot plate
* Coffee Maker
* Radio
* Clock

Is it possible to put small computers, LCD display on the future devices?
What about reliability?
What happen if one part of the device failed?

Give me dedicated appliances over combined crap any day. They always end up being a compromise. Not able to do one thing properly, but instead able to lots of thing half.

Then you'd have to send the whole thing back to be repaired, and eat cornflakes until it's fixed. :pissed:

I'm with Odin, it's just less hassle having everything separate, not just for multi-function devices like this but all that digital convergence crud that Fleecy was always evangelising.

It's not just a matter of reliability, but upgrading too.
What happens if one day you decide that you want a better radio, or a coffee machine that could make more styles of coffee than Starbucks ?
