4-way interface? surely these should be known as 3-way interfaces as the fourth socket connects to the computer. The question here is how do I add a fourth component? Is there a splitter cable or something?
Cheers.

nope its a 4 way interface as it has four connectors.
1 from the mobo to the interface, two 40pin IDE connectors each capable of handling 2 devices, and a 44pin IDE connector that you can use in place of one of the 40Pin ones for 44 pin devices.

See, there you go. "...each capable of handling 2 devices..." therefore a splitter is required, as no IDE device I've seen has a passthrough/daisy chain - eg some printers, SCSI devices etc.

Each IDE socket is capable of handling two devices. Almost every IDE cable I've seen has two device ports.

yup, no splitter is required, get a 3 way IDE cable and you can have a slave and master on each port.
