Made this years ago so I could hook up a CD drive etc to a stock 1200 case.

The auction also tells "You will need an adapter to convert the 1200 internal 2.5" IDE to 3.5" which is not included. The basic function of this was to dangle the male end out of the back of the 1200 case, and connect a regular IDE cable to an external box with the drive's in."
So if you buy this one then you still need an adapter. I used to have a typical ide cable with one 2,5" end that connected to the 2,5" motherboard ide controller, and the 2 other connectors were standard 3,5". Have used it for years with two harddrives, one inside and the other outside

I am unsure what your actual point is.
The adapter I refer to would be the common dual ide board that fits over the internal 2.5" header. As I don't have one now, I cannot include.
I made this cable so that I could hook up externally positioned cased drives , and quickly remove them if I needed to transport the Amiga. It made good sense to me.
It is a cable specific to my particular needs at the time - how you set up your cabling is your own business. I am not twisting anyones arm to buy it. I am simply clearing out things that I will otherwise consign to the bin.
I fail to see what amuses you, so.

The thing that amused me was thinking back at the days when I had those two harddrives connected, I didn´t mean your posting, don´t get me wrong :-)

Sorry, I thought you were taking the piss out of my expertly constructed cable :-o

Trust me, I don´t do that kind of stuff. I have much respect for people that can create something useful. Wished I could do the same thing

Yet, it's not an Amiga specific cable isn't it? I mean since it's not a 2.5"->3.5" one then is just a "generic" 2-way IDE cable.

It was Amiga specific when I made it - in the way that I made it specifically to use with my Amiga - it was however made using generic components available from most component retailers.

Not exactly - look at the photo.

One end terminates in a standard 40 way IDC female, and the other end terminates in a 40 pin header (as found on yer mother board and harddrive). The reason for this was so I could easily connect and disconnect external IDE drives to a stock 1200 case that was fitted with a 40 pin IDE expansion (a power flyer fyi).
There's certainly nothing mystical about it :-)
