Title: What is the most memory you have ever seen in a classic Amiga?
Post by: glitch on April 30, 2005, 12:46:17 PM
Hi,

With all of the discussion on how to get the DKB 3128 boards working properly, it got me thinking... What is the most memory you have ever seen in a classic Amiga?

For my concern it must be 272 MB with 128 MB on the CSPPC, 128 MB on the DKB 3128 and 16 MB on the Amiga 4000 motherboard.

Using a Mediator busboard it would be possible to install 6 x DKB 3128 and 128 MB on the accelerator, or even better 6 x FastLane Z3 with 256 MB on each board, if those 32 MB 30 pins modules ever got released. That makes it 1680 MB fast ram, but most likely the Amiga will not be able to handle this anyway :-)

My BlizzardPPC board is maxed out with 256 MB ram as well.

This is what I have had in my Amigas:
Amiga 600: 38 MB  (2 MB + 32 MB with Apollo 630 + 4 MB PCMCIA) - SOLD unfortanely but got a good price :D
Amiga 1200: 258 MB  (2 MB chip + 256 MB with Blizzard PPC) - SOLD
Amiga 500+: 130 MB  (2 MB + 128 MB with Blizzard 2040) - Still owns it! :D

I had 128MB (64MB+64MB) on my BlizzardPPC. (BPPC can take two 128MB SIMMs but they are not easy to get.)

I saw an A3000 with 3 fastlane boards all with 128MB on them and a CSPPC with 128MB at a show a few years ago. Someone killed the OS3.9 install so it wouldnt boot and I dont know if it actually addressed all the RAM. The owner did say it worked fine and I dont see why it wouldnt.

As for me I had 256MB in my A3000 and it worked just fine.

As I said on the other tread, try to beat that:

128 MB on MKII
128 MB on DKB3128
 64 MB on Fastlane Z3
 16 MB on Mobo
---------------------
336 MB Fast total (plus 2MB Chip :-D )

I'm curious about the Z3 Fastlane. Firstly, how many of the upgraded ones are around, the ones that can take 256mb? What I mean is, are these rare boards or can you find them second-hand in similar quantities to DKB boards?

Secondly, assuming somebody found one of the 256mb versions, would these (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/30PS16MB/) SIMMS work? They seem to be sold for old Mac computers. They are 5v SIMMS, what voltage SIMMS are used in the Z3?

Well my EUAE "classic" emulation has run fine with 512MB of virtual ram

On the other hand, I had 12MB fastram on my A3K, just now added a handful more ZIPs, and now I have 8MB fastram,
I've LOST 4MEGS by *ADDING* chips....wtf?

@doctorq

There do exist a 7*Zorro3 slot bussboards so theoreticaly it should look something like (7*256)+128+16+2 and if I'm not mistaking there's actually a 2GB (or was it 4GB?) ram window that the Amiga will handle so 1938MB shouldn't be a problem. :-D

Personaly 128MB have covered all my ram needs for ages. Most unpack jobs and other temp destinasion jobs fit nicely in 128MB. Most I've seen is 256+2 on a BPPC and most I've owned is 128+16+2 on my old CSMK1 A4000.

itix: 2x128 for Blizzards (55NS/60NS) is damn easy to find theese days, haymigga introduced them to use over 2 years ago and now nearly everyone have 256mb :-)

he sold to like 100+ (200 simms?)persons and now it seems AmigaKit is dooing the same aswell...

anyway H&P servers aint using theese simms anymore so thats bwhy they have been so easy to find the last year(s) but haymigga was the first really....to bring us cheap and fast simms.

cheers

Nope they are a lot rarer, as none of those bords were sold directly, but you couls order an upgradeset of 3 GALs from P5. The fact that even filling up the Fastlane to the standard 64 MB costed an obscene amount of money back then and 16MB SIMMs costed even more (even P5 itselft is said to have never tested a full populated 256MB Fastlane as it was too expensive for them) lead to he fact that only very few upgradesets were sold. Unconfirmed rumors talk about 20 or so in total. I belive those rumors, as I am searching for that card since I knew of it`s existence and that are quite some years.

It would be very easy and cheap to reproduce this upgradeset for the Fastlane today, but unfotunately the plans for it got lost. I asked DCE if they could do it but they told me that the IP they bought of P5 did ot include FastalneZ3 stuff :-(

@ Lemmink

That means that if someone has a Z3 with upgraded chips he can sell that for quite a bit. Is the access speed on that the same as the DKB (assuming same speed SIMMS)?

Nothing's changed then, Amigakit still using every thread to promote its products...

Does it never get tiresome?

Cyberus : I don´t mind that AmigaKit promotes its products. I also mention often enough what I sell at what prices. I actually wished Elbox would come here every day too, not just to promote what they sell but also give plenty of information about their products so people don´t have to send them mails or ask info here
