Title: Tricky ebay auction
Post by: Asmodean on April 26, 2005, 12:13:21 PM
I was searching for some blizzard cards on ebay today, and then I found this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=98928&item=8187960659&rd=1

Not a very nice way to fool people I think. The auction has a "buy it now" for only £0.01 and then the seller want £99.99 which is his "Seller's Standard Rate"

Some dubious feedback as well:

- Never recived item. Avoid like the plague. Filed claim with paypal. Do not use!!

- shame on you, hornochse

- Wanted to collect, would not allow. No reply to emails, IDIOT, TOTALLY AVOID!

- No Comms from Seller, Paid. no Goods Recieved. Recovered Money. AVOID!!

- No contact after purchase, do not trust, VERY BAD EBAYER!!!

- NON PAYING BIDDER. Promised payment several times but not received, no replies to dispute. Fees reclaimed and strike issued.

- did not complete purchase had to relist item

- Not Satisfactory. Nearly 3 weeks to arrive. No cable to connect to TV included.

Report him to Ebay for attempting to circumvent seller fees. Ebay will take it seriously and take action.

Reported.  I usually don't like to tattle, but this person is seriously whacked.  We'll see what they do about it, but I'd think eBay would take it's money seriously.

Well, I just bought his A4000 atx power supply adaptor, buy it now for 1 pence, £11 postage, still not too bad, certainly a lot easier than doing it yourself (I know, I've done it) :-)

Someone local should bid and pick-up all of his items. :-)

Merlancia did that a while ago, too. Large fake shipping fees are bad news and mean. Ebay doesn't like it, either.

He's not the only example of this practice. Even 'reputable' companies do it. For example, you can buy brand new, Epson compatible carts for a penny or two Right Here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=69932&item=6763674650&rd=1). And Here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=69932&item=6763769275&rd=1). Check the postage.

Another much more common practice is adding PayPal fees to the auction price, typically 4%. This is also in contravention of eBay rules, so do eBay really care that much?

Cheers,

JaX

Item prices stay the same, shipping cost varey... with one item one could make, though higly stupid and totaly transparent, an argument but with this second item even that would fail.

As for the Inc links it's pritty standard that you can get something for cheap if you are willing to pay for it with stupidly high S&H costs. I get that sort of things in my mail every other day or so. It's still withing the "reasonable" range. After all high quality packages that can survive a nuke blast does cost a bit one could argue. ;)

I emailed him asking if I could pick it up locally and he said that I could but it would be cheaper not to get on a plane from the USA. So, I said I was asking for someone who was in the UK and...
Quote
I'm wanting £90 for the board with or without postage
was his reply. This was all by email, but then he posted a reply to my question original question, about local pickup, on his auction after all the email back and forth we did. The answer he put was, "NO". He needs a spanking. :-(

He also sold a Warpengine 040 (http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8187936272&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1) for 1 penny but 75 GBP shipping ... to me this seems like a total of 75 GBP for a "Amiga 3000 / 4000 Warp Engine 040 40mhz with 32 meg ram + scsi", in Euro´s that would be 110 euro. Is this a rip-off ??? It´s not really for free, but I wouldn´t want to call it extremely expensive, or is it ?!  :-o

And his "standard rate" changed, too.

Also has anybody else noticed the sellers on (uk at least) ebay saying that their location is china or hong kong?

Mainly sellers of electrical goods and pc accessories, I've seen kvm's going for about £6.99 with £16 shipping from china etc. I think all of these ar uk based companies saving on ebay seller fees.
