I just bought a 64Mb SIMM on an online auction for my Blizzard 1260. Today when I opened the package I noticed that it was a double sided SIMM which wouldn't fit. :(
I decided to try it anyway by holding it in place with my thumb while booting up, and it actually showed 62.3Mb after I booted. I now use a rubberband to keep it in place.
My question is... can the double sided SIMM make my Amiga unstable, or even worse possibly damage my hardware.. or is it just a question of not enough room on the board?

No, double sided SIMM works just fine, assuming you manage to keep it seated.

Can an Apollo 1260 also accept 64MB simms like the Blizzard can?
I have only 32MB on my A1200 and sometimes I run out of memory. :(

No.

If you want 512 KB more free, you only have to take the jumper out.
My Blizzard 1260 has 128 MB of RAM. One in the Blizzard and the other in the SCSI-kit.
The SCSI-kit is one of the finest SCSI controller you can get for your Amiga 1200.
@ChaosLord: You could have more than 32 MB of RAM, if you have an additional SIMM socket.

I wouldn't use a double sided simm held down with a rubberband in my B1260. Until i got my singlesided 64Mb simm I only used a 16Mb one in my B1260. Rubberbands have a tendancy to break with time, especialy if subjected to heat. If the simm does come lose there's a real chance you might break your CPU card!

Until I've eventually got my hands on a single sided SIMM, I'll make sure to keep the rubberbands up to date. :-)
