Title: Hiding behind the seti
Post by: blobrana on April 16, 2005, 10:45:15 PM
Hum,

there’s a cool service provided by

http://wiz.homelinux.net/seti.php for you Seti@home users out there...

Example from my website (http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/blobrana/pov/index.html) (i can`t get it working here...)  ;(

Just create a picture in your website and add this as a link for the picture:

< a href="http://wiz.homelinux.net/seti.php?user=URemail@adress.com">

It shows your current units processed etc...

< adding >
have the mysterons got to Whabang (http://setiathome2.ssl.berkeley.edu/stats/team/team_181273.html)?

Hum,
The old SETI@home Classic project will stop issuing work on December 15, 2005.
Anyone still running SETI@home Classic (http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/stats/team/team_181273.html) should deactivate it and install SETI@home/BOINC

Download (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php), install and run the BOINC software used by SETI@home.
When prompted, enter the URL http://setiathome.berkeley.edu.

Already done that myself :-)

I was going to PM Wayne about updating the link on the left to point to the new page (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/team_display.php?teamid=33303), unless you've already done it.

Could they not have called it something other than BOINC?
I'm trying to move the classic account over to the BOINC account, still haven't got an activation code via email...

An unfortunate acronym, but: Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing.

Mind you, not as bad as: The Comitte for the Liberation and Integration of Terrifying Organisms and their Rehabilitation Into Society ;-)

Any word yet?  I noticed you're not on the team page (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/team_display.php?teamid=33303) yet.

Mate I've had to ditch SETI altogether. I think I had only 12 units after having the screensaver for more than a year. My pattern of usage is such that I don't have much screensaver activity and I don't tend to leave the computer on unattended much because of other information on it that is quite sensitive. If I upgrade my computer or finish my project early, then I will check it all out again.
The hassles I have in trying to transfer SETI@home to BOINC (never were resolved) are not worth the effort to resolve so I have wiped the lot.
In fact lately I have come to the realisation that I have been expending quite a lot of time and effort in various things, and the 'cost to benefit' ratio is not in my favour or anybody else's. One of the things I am going to review is how I spend my time on line, both here and on other sites.
