Title: AmigaSYS "Amiga Alive" problem
Post by: MickJT on April 12, 2005, 06:03:40 AM
Anyone actually got this going?

I made the knoppix.img file using my Knoppix CD and a lot of stuffing around to enable write permissions to the usb flash drive. ... and then editing the script.uae file to make the file a couple meg smaller so it'd fit on my "almost but not quite 128meg" flash drive.

So, I pop in this AmigaSYS Amiga Alive CD, press enter, it boots up, loads e-uae, then.. the amiga dos screen.. it seems that every file is "write protected".. who cares? just cause a file is write protected shouldn't stop me from running it.

If I type in jibberish like slkljk, it says unknown command, that's good, type S, nothing happens (that's good, means it went into S), type Dir, and it says file is write protected.

ahh!!! what now? I tried again, did chmod -R 777 before making the .img file.. No luck. Same prob.

Hi,

open a shell (an Amiga shell in e-uae), try to enter the command "protect #? +rw all". This should remove the read and write protection from every file of your Amiga installation (will take some time).

I'm not a novice, I feel like i've been using Amigas since I was born..

The problem is, I can't run anything.. It just says the file is write protected, how can I run "protect"? I can't..

The only thing I might be able to do, is.. nah.. I don't know how E-UAE is set up on it, and what drives are there.. otherwise I would have tried running "protect" from a diff location.

I'd run it from DF0:, but of course crossdos isn't loaded.

There's really nothing I can do.. Even if I modify the startup-sequence script before making the .img.. No good, startup-sequence doesn't even run. So, hmm.. The script does chmod 777 though, maybe it's just too many permissions to handle at one time... but I haven't seen anyone else complaining.

I don't know if this is related, but if I try to view the contents of the Amiga Developer CDv2.1 or AmigaOS 3.9 CD under linux, unless I am root it's impossible.

I'm pretty sure it's unrelated.. I'll email the author of Amiga Alive and point him to this thread.

[Edit: Can't find his email address. Anyone know it? nebulah2002@hotmail.com bounces back]

Hi,

I've put the "Amiga Alive CD" toghether. And the image currently isn't available anymore. Please check nebudom.homeunix.org/amiga for updates...

Beta 2 is on its way and this one is 1) about 100 meg and thus smaller, 2) much easier to setup, 3) some nice addons

My current email is on the website.

Hello Amigans,

Is Amiga Alive... DEAD?

All of the links that I've found for this appear to go nowhere.

Does anyone know the status of this? I'd really like to run AmigaSys from my USB drive.
