Hi all,
While browsing the local computer magazine I saw someone was giving away a free A4000 desktop. Included in the stash was about 20-30 boxed pieces of software, a couple 1520s and a GVP genlock.
Anyway, this 4000 is in near mint condition. It was sitting in the guy's garage so theres a little surface rust inside the case. A little work with the Dremel will fix that.
The other "flaw" is the missing 3.5" drive bay cover. Underneath the floppy drive there is a second 3.5" drive bay. If the bay is empty you can place a little plastic cover over the slot.
So.. my question.. :D Does anyone have one of these they can spare? I can pay for it. I would like to add this machine to my collection of mint Amigas :)
Please feel free to email me:

Remove the NOSPAM :)

Lucky you! Good to hear of someone getting a free one given the current eBay climate. :-)
I may have a drive bay cover. I remember removing mine and installing a fan in the drive bay some time ago. Of course, knowing I have it and knowing where it is are very different things! I'll have a look tomorrow and let you know.

Can“t you try to add a 2nd 3,5" drive to it ??? :-?

Just got a free A2000/A2090a/GVPHC+8SeriesII/Bernoulli150/external scsi cdrom. Not quite as nice as a 2000 but it *is* military spec... ;)

I'm getting a free Amiga 1000.. that *has* to count for something :)

We should get together sometime. I had no idea other Amiga users were
in the area. You can check out my Pegasos even.

check the motherboard battery for corrosion. It is the most common killer of old amigas.
-
Yes, definitely remove the battery if you are not planning on using it, especially if it's one of the original red barrel jobs. They absolutely leak and will at a minimum kill the real time clock; maybe even destroy some of the SIMM memory address lines which lie nearby. Don't put it off, I've seen too many A4000s with batteries that have destroyed motherboards!

I also had the dilema of what to install in the 2nd 3.5" slot. I had a Zip-100 for a while but decided I needed a 2nd floppy drive instead. Since my original drive is a Chinon FZ-357A, I decided to stay Chinon and adapted a Chinon FZ-357 1.44MB PC drive for use with the Amiga! Works perfectly and even does a disk change! Here is a pic:
