Title: Is there an alternative to Eyetech's EZCam?
Post by: zurt on March 05, 2003, 04:41:15 PM
I recently ordered an EZCam from Eyetech. EZCam is a device that puts your A1200's PCMCIA in a 3.5" front bay, so you can gain access to it easily, furthermore it enables your amiga to read SmartCards used in digital cameras. But unfortunately Eyetech does not produce it anymore.

My question is, does exist another similar product from another manufacturer?

If I cannot find something similar to that I will have to buy an angle adaptor for my towered 1200.

You could get a Subway clockport USB interface which will allow you to use a compatible USB memory card reader to transfer pictures to your Amiga. I have a Highway (the Zorro slot version) and a Lacie HexaDrive which reader Compact Flash, Smart Media, Memory Stick, Secure Digial and MMC cards and it works really well. More details including a listing of compatible readers is on the E3B website. (http://www.e3b.de) Of course the Subway has the advantage of being compatible with other USB periperals too.

If you did get a right angle adaptor for your PCMCIA slot another option would be to use cfd (http://www.aminet.net/disk/misc/cfd.lha) from Aminet, this is a driver that lets you read memory cards in a PCMCIA adaptor in the A1200's slot.

Another option is to get a Mediator+Spider USB card.  Its more
expensive than the Subway but you could then add a graphics card so
you can view/edit your photos in 24-bit colour.

DOH! I wanted one of those too. Oh well.

I use my PSION 5 to read the CF Cards from my camera. Well I do when it works
