Post by: Dr_Nineman on April 06, 2005, 08:48:03 PM
Any news on when (or if) this will be released?

Has the community given up all hope of this product?

The first rule of the amiga community, it's all vapour...  until proven otherwise.

I spoke to Adam a few weeks ago over the phone (in regards to a different matter) and he seems to be a very busy man. I asked about the accelerator project, and he said that the main reason for being so busy was infact the A1200 accelerator (e.g. he's working on it).

That's the latest news, I guess. :-) Not that it revealed anything important.

I'd like to see someone build a Cardbus controller into an expansion board like this. Mount two Type II/III sockets in the 1200's rear expansion port and you'd have a tight system with good upgrade potential.

Need a sound upgrade? Get a PCMCIA sound card.
Need SCSI? Get a PCMCIA SCSI card.
etc..

Small and compact. Just the way I like it.

@bubba:

You'd still require drivers for such expansion(s). Just look at development of drivers for current existing PCI busboard expansions. There is basically none, yet the hardware is available, expansions are available...however driver development is not. :-(

It's not just driver development that's the issue. The Amiga PCI busboards don't behave like PC PCI busboards (unlike many non-PC solutions which do--e.g. the AmigaOne). In same cases, the busboards don't provide the resources needed to bootstrap the device (e.g. SCSI HBAs and generic VGA adapters). So, any new implementation of a peripheral bus would have to be very PC-like for it to work with off the shelf hardware.

It's possible to work around the issues I mentioned above, but it limits the amount of generic programming one can do.
