Title: New google adverts on Amiga.org
Post by: on April 06, 2005, 03:54:44 PM
Hi guys,

Just as a heads up, I added google adverts to Amiga.org.  I did this for a couple of reasons, but just so you understand:.

1) It helps the "Amiga economy" by letting Amiga sellers do cheap advertising and get their product out.  They only pay (normally about 30 cents) for each click on their advertisement and Google makes it very easy to track their progress.

2) If other Amiga related sites want to get a link on the front page of Amiga.org, all they need to do is simply create a google AdWords account which means their advert will be seen on lots of other Amiga-related sites as well.

3) due to the diminishing number of advertisers (there are only 3 or so) their adverts were being displayed at a rate of 6000 to 10000 per day.  Since Xoops has no way to place an advert for a set length of time, that means that the ads placed by them were lasting an incredibly short time, meaning more cost to them, and less incentive to place new ads more quickly.  No current site sponsors will be affected in a negative way.  I have added 5 seperate google ads to the normal 468x60 advert block for underneath the latest topics.  This will serve to make our sponsor's advertisements actually last longer, which will benefit them by lower cost advertising.

If you guys want to help support Amiga.org without spending a dime, find an Amiga-related advertisement on the right column of the main page, then click on it every once and a while.  You never know, you might find something interesting enough to actually purchase.

I will do my part by using the ads to check related gear.  I know every little bit helps.

I would agree, but since it's not my code driving the adverts, I'm not sure that it's up to me.

Mine do that too, using Opera 7.51.

@Doppie

Damn. With an avatar like yours, it's very difficult not to snap back in an angry tone.  You look constipated.

:laughing:
