Title: Different Batteries in A4000

I read somewhere that some late model A4000's do not have the "barrel battery" and are equipped with a more maintainable battery.

Is this true?  If so, is it easy identify such units?

I can't speak on the desktops in this regard, but the geniune
4000T's (Quikpak/Escom) made units that have coin batteries
soldered in.  Unfortunately, to replace requires soldering
or using a cordless phone style battery.

Yes this is true, the later A4000 CR models have a coin-style battery commonly found in modern motherboards as opposed to the normal Amiga 4000 NIMH battery (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=132)

Yes it's true, as the other poster has pointed out.  But these "rev D" A4000's are extremely difficult to find. I don't actually know how many were produced.  I haven't ever recalled seeing one for sale second hand. I think people who have them either don't know because they've never opened the case (not really likely) or they are hanging on to them as collectors items.

Does anyone know how many rev D A4000-CR boards were produced? I think they were only sold as A4000/030 models - as the 030 is also on the motherboard on this revision.  But I could be wrong.

I have a Rev D mobo that just died.  Chip RAM went bad.  It has a built in Coin Cell and a EXT batt connector, along with a EC030 and 68882 FPU socket.  Nice board I hope to try and get it fixed sometime.

I almost got my hands on an A4000 system with a CR motherboard in it, however the seller backed out on the deal. :-(

I definitely like it better than the original version, as it's got a battery on it that's unlikely to ever leak after it stops working and it comes with proper simm slots (not the cheap ones with plastic clips like on the original version).

Whether the built-in 030 and chip ram features are better is debateable, as I guess in theory if they ever go bad (as in TjLaZer's case) you're screwed. :-(
