Title: Hello everyone
Post by: dEfEndEr on April 02, 2005, 12:43:08 PM
Hi,

I found this site whilst looking to fix my A2000 (a 1500 with the label removed)

Just like to say Hello, and to give a little overview to my Amiga life.

Started with an A500.
Bought a A590 and a 4MB expansion card.
Bought a pre 1500 case (the A500 sat inside it but it game the expansion slots for the 2000)

Then I bought the machine I have now (al be it dead at the moment  :-( )
My A2000, with 6MB ram, 1GB SCSI drive and card, Tandam IDE card with CD-ROM.
VXL*30 68030 processor.
WB2.0.4

I still have all the Amiga bits and pieces and am currently bidding on eBay for a A1200, A600HD, 2xA500 machines as well as a few other bits.
Would love to add the Amiga to my PC network, just to play some of the old games and be able to copy some of the hundreds of files I have available onto my server for safer storage  :-)

Used to write C Programs for the Paragon BB Software and I ran ACE-BBS from the A500 :-) using Paragon BBS.

Still have all my C compilers and manuals for the Amiga, another reason I've love to get it going again, so that I can port some of the Open Source software I now write for over to it for general release.

Well thats enough anout my Amiga life, wants and wish'es.

dEf.

Thanks Def :-)

Almost forgot my question.

Any-one know if any Internet Server Software has been written / ported to the Amiga OS ?.

Seems like a quick and easy way to get data to / from the Amiga without using link software, that way a FTP can be set-up between the PC network and the Amiga to send / receive files.

@dEfEndEr

Welcome to A.org :-D

I'd have thought that Samba would be the way to go if you want to share things over the network with a windows box - other people here'll know how to set it up.

Well,

Thank you to the hords of people that said Hi..

I bought a 1200 Tower - Fitted a Mediator - PowerFlyer - 68060 - SCSI

And sold it again :(

So I've just bought another to start again with, but if Elbox don't release a good upgrade card before June, it'll be sold again, and I'll stick with My A2000 (which has been expanded)

You sold that nice piece of kit?

Well, nothing beats a real big box Amiga  :-)

Can you please tell us what new stuff you've put into your A2000?

Yep.

The 1200 ended up

A1200
3.1 ROM - OS3.9 - BB2
Power Tower
Mediator SX
- Voodoo 3
- Netword Card
- Sound Blaster (never did get that fully operational)
Blizzard 1260 + 64MB
Blizzard SCSI + 128MB
PowerFlyer III
Cocolinio Amiga->PC Mouse Converter
DVD/CD Writer Combo - Make-CD (registered)
200GB Hard Drive ;)

Sold for £510.00

The A2000 I have now has 8GB FAST RAM and a Mini Mega Chip taking the CHIP to 2MB, and has a DVD/CD Writer Combo with Make-CD installed and 3.1 ROMs with OS3.1.

I can't seem to get the thing to install 3.5 or 3.9, it just crashes, but then 3.5 and 3.9 were really written for the 1200/4000 systems, so I guess i'll have to stick to 3.1 in it.

I have, however, just bought another Power Tower, that has the EyeTech IDE interface in it and a Magnum 1230 with 32MB ram, not a bad buy as it came with all the original manual's (never had the chance to read a Power Tower manual before..!) and it's a Amiga Technoligies Motherboard (so already had 3.1 roms).
I've already taken the A1200HD floppy drive out of it, and the silly controller board (as the floppy was DOA).
Re-Installed 3.1->3.5->3.9 so the OS is fully operational.

But i'm drifting  :-D

Opps that's 8MB (i'm used to typing PC specs   )

I may be in the market for a SCSI-2 card too, as the old Malibu is oly SCSI, and the external SCSI drive I filled with stuff of my old tower, is SCSI-2 and the 2000 can't even see it.

Is there a limitation to the size of drive a 2000 can see ?
Mind you, my A500 with A590 can see the partitions (more than the 2000 can) but can't read it (on WB2, not fitted the 3.1 rom to that yet   )
