Is there anyone that could lend me some Workbench disks, or get me coppies of workbench disks. Our A2000 boots up to workbench 1.3.1 and then does some funky stuff. If anyone can help email me at HersSte@bvu.edu subject "Amiga". I am located in North West Iowa, USA.

I was trying to help HersSte over MSN to get his A2000 working. It boots from HD (into WB 1.3) and then goes all weird, booting some other weird program that needs a button on the back of the monitor to be pressed. As I am in Australia (and don't actually have an A2000 until tomorrow night), I am not much help. The A2000 was previously used for research and is now in the possession of a school, to continue part of that research, I believe. As he has no keyboard, Workbench disks or second Amiga, he obviously needs someone to either lend him a copy of WB 1.3 or recommend somewhere to buy it. (If it's still possible to buy WB 1.3, :lol: )

during boot, hold down Ctrl-D to break the Startup-sequence, then type;
C:Loadwb
C:Endcli
That should get him to Workbench.

Yeah, the problem is having no keyboard :-o
Am I right in assuming that there'd be some sort of schematics on aminet to use a PC keyboard on an A2000?

Hmm... I didn't see that... There are plently of Amiga shops that sell PS/2 to Amiga keyboard adapters... the problem is that they probably need drivers...

Yeah.....So it's either get hold of a genuine A2000 keyboard or take the HD out and use WinUAE to read it and install drivers?

I guess for now I'm SOL!! I've tried to look up some of the hardware in my A2000HD, but I can't find specs on some of the boards and stuff...

2 weeks ago I purchased a keyboard from ebay.
They claimed to have another one.
The one I received was grungy (to put it mildly)

I have good news, and bad news. The bad news is that I have been unable to find a keyboard. One of my proffs had one for an A1000 but it ued an RJ4 connecter not a dim connector so I was unable to use it. However I figured out a way to stay in workbench 1.3.3. When the program starts that has been causing trouble, I unplugged the HD from the bus line. Then when workbench came back up with the error, I plugged the HD back in, and hit retry. The program did not start back up, but workbench stayed open. So at least now I can look and see what all is on the computer.

@HersSte:
Softhut (http://www.softhut.com) sells refurbished A2000 keyboards for ~$40 and the Lyra PS/2 to Amiga keyboard adapter for ~$45.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Do NOT do that again! Amiga hardware is extremely sensitive, and ripping out cables while the power is on certainly can't he healthy for the machine. A2000 keyboards are fairly common, as Amiga keyboards go. Check ebay, Software Hut (http://www.softhut.com), Mr. Hardware (http://www.mrhardwarecomputers.com), or Compuquick (http://www.compuquick-amigadirect.com) to find one.

I suggest that you really dont try that method again.. Doing this can seriousely damage the whole computer. I am sure it is possible to get a keyboard from somewhere.

Ehhmm...doesn't it need a keyboard connected to be able to boot at all?
My A3000 doesn't boot without one connected.

I have PS/2 keyboard adapter from Softhut (not sure what kind) and it doesn't require any drivers at all. Just plug it in and go.

Hi,
> Ehhmm...doesn't it need a keyboard connected to be able to boot at all?
An Amiga usualy boots without any input device (mouse, keyboard, joystick) connected to the computer (in opposide to a PC). In fact you could switch the keyboard and the mouse between two running Amigas using a manual KVM (not an electronic one) without any problems. A PC would hang if you switch of its mouse or keyboard during run, there you have to use an electronic KVM that emulates the existance of a keyboard/mouse to the computer that currenbtly is not connected to it.

Try again, my A3000T does boot (as any other Amiga should also do) without anything connected to the motherboard except the power supply (and a floppy drive of cause).

Hi,

With Kickstart/Workbench 1.3.1 you won't see all stuff that is stored on the HD without a keyboard connected to the Amiga.
You will only see that files and directories that have an according icon. Every file without an icon is invisible and cannot be made visible with WB 1.3. You have to use a shell and use the DIR or LIST command to see the whole contents of a directory.

I think I've got a 2000 keyboard spare, if you're interested. I'm in the UK.
