Title: Welcome back TPG :-) (WAS: Positivity in the Amiga Community)
Post by: alx on March 29, 2005, 10:38:37 PM
A lot of people have had links to this (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/christopher.sheffield/positivity.html) in their sigs - nice idea IMHO.  Unfortunately the site's down and that_punk_guy appears to have disappeared (I should visit these parts more...) so I've stuck on a copy here (http://www.amigacentre.co.uk/cgi-bin/wiki.pl/Positivity_For_Amiga).  If that_punk_guy happens to be browsing and wants it removed, please (p)email me :-)

---edit---

Just realised that I'm nearing my bandwidth limit.  Don't be too positive, people

It seems that the positivity in Amiga community has reached a very satisfactory level, thus no need for the page anymore. ;-)

Oh, that's embarrassing. I went Mac and I'm sitting outside the library freezing my balls off for the free wireless. Haven't quite got the hang of it all yet and I thought my first post hadn't... posted. ;-)

Good to see that you're still around - you can never escape from A.org ;-)

As LinchpiN said, they never got reset.  Hardly anyone could be bothered to set a valid e-mail IIRC, though that's all history now...

Okay. :-) I deliberately obfuscated my old account details when I "left" and I think it's unrecoverable. So I'm NoFastMem now, I guess. I went to Lawrence, Kansas but not for as long as I'd hoped 'cause dogs need a rabies jab six months before they return to the UK, which would mean getting a visa were I to go straight away... So I had to leave him behind in kennels which severely limited the amount of time I could be away. Also, my friend Shannon is moving back to California. If I'd got over sooner things would have been okay.

I got a flat in Scarborough and set my heart on becoming Anne Bronte. Minus the tuberculosis.

Of course, what it amounted to was that about 70% of the members hadn't logged on in 200 days or more, so they wouldn't have seen the password reset warning, and that there was in my opinion a very strong correlation between not logging on and not posting. Wayne feared that he would have to reset about 1000 passwords manually: I think that that is a gross overestimate. I presented my argument here (http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=14326) (second-to-last contribution to the discussion) but unfortunately it never got a reply. But in the end, yes, the thing is entirely academic now.

Good to see you back, now just don't leave again :griping: :-P

@That Punk Guy:

I was halfway through this thread before I realised NoFastMem was you.

Good to see you back mate.

FWIW, I'm in the process of going iBook too, although I'll keep all my "Amigas". (2xA1200, A1 & Peg)

:-) :-)

GarageBand is a lot of fun to play around with. :-) I'll upload something as soon as I get DSL here.

Thanks for all the welcome-backs. :-) Sorry I'm still kinda in-and-out at the moment but I think I'll be returning more regularly soon. :-D

*thinks aloud: Is that a good thing?*

@TPG

I've tinkered with that at work (ahem, er not that I should be) but I can't for the life of me seem to actually do anything with it

I suppose I'm way too long in the tooth and dependent on OctaMED Soundstudio to learn how to use new music software :-D

my brother has made a couple of songs using that. I was over at his place a few weeks ago while he monkeyed with it. it's amazing!
(makes me wish i had an iBook - except i'm not talented like my brother is).
I think there's a link online with his songs and i'll ask him if he minds me letting you fellas hear them.

One thing I haven't seen anyone ask (probably my eyes missing things completely again  :-P)...

How's Dale?  You said he was in the kennels for a wee while when you were away, how did he react when he saw you again?

Hope he is well enough to chase some :kitty: about ;-)

It's a lot easier with a MIDI controller, if you're more into software instruments and stuff. They sell M-Audio keyboards at most Apple stores for about £50, probably cheaper elsewhere. But it's really not up to much as a sequencer and the way it works is rather idiosyncratic so it's worth reading the manual. I don't think it's something you'd want to use for serious work, though I did manage to make a good sounding rock song with just an acoustic guitar and the built-in mic. (Results soon...) :-)

He's doing great but unfortunately I have to find him a new home. I'm on my own now with no Becky to pop round and see him and he just gets so upset if he has to be left alone that it just doesn't seem fair to keep him anymore. It's a horrible situation whichever way I choose really, so I'm just trying to think of what's best for him. :-(

Christ, how do I follow that?

Punk sis might be moving up to Scotland. She was talking about Edinburgh 'cause we visited a couple of months ago but god knows what house/rent prices are like there.

Rent/Tax in Edinburgh is probably quite expensive.  In Dundee it's not too bad, but then it is a crap place to live ;-)

I recommend Glasgow. Well I dont really it's {bleep} but i prefer it to everywhere else ive been. Especially Edinburgh.....

Edinburgh was nice until some Gouranga! guy with a scabby nose told us about an Englishman getting his face ripped off for daring to walk on Scottish soil. Then we felt nervous. ;-)

It's a good job I never did have the balls to shout "one more {bleep}ing hit!"

I kid, I kid.

PS. Mac users might want to steer clear of Tesco Broadband if they're hoping to make any use of the free modem. OS 10.4 drivers for which won't appear for a month or so... :pissed:

GarageBand fun!

I don't think it sounds bad at all considering it's just an acoustic guitar and the built in mic. ;-)

At first I got:

Did not receive any response from application. It is possible that the application does not exist, or that the requested url is incorrect.

Then I got:
