Hello,
I am really confused! Okay so there are a bunch of PPC operating systems out there such as:
- Amiga OS4
- MorphOS
- Genisis
- Pegasos
As I read the forums and various websites I get more and more confused on what motherboards each OS works with and... What are the differences? Is one better than the other? Where can I purchase these motherboards?
Also, which OS do you guys recomend?
Sorry for all of the questions, just really confused :-?

Genesi makes the Pegasos that runs MorphOS
Eyetech makes the Amiga A1 that runs AmigaOS4
Neither operating systems are interchangable.

No, but by default, both are compatible under the hood. There would be some tinkering involved, but for the most part, they are the same.

@Methuselas
True, I should have added that for clarity, thanks.

AOS4 currently runs on the Amigaones XE,SE,u
It also runs on the PPC powered Classic Amigas.
Thought the classic version is not released to the general public yet.
It is being developed by Hyperion and is for sale currently only bundled with Amigaone hardware.
MorphOS works on the Pegasos boards. It is currently bundled on the hard drive with Linux, not with the CD or the Super bundle anymore. Portions of it are now being developed open source and available for download for free. It too runs on the PPC powered Classic Amigas. Thought the Classic version is not yet released to the general public yet. Guy's please, please do so soon.
Personal choice on the OS's really.
Reaction GUI versus MUI GUI
If you liked OS3.5 or 3.9 then you will love 4.0
If you liked Magic WB than you will really love Ambient.

Also stay away from purchasing Amigaone SE or Pegasos I boards unless the price is right as they tend to be buggy hardware wise.

MorphOS 1.4.3 is still bundled with every Pegasos board. Genesi has commented a number of times about how all the Pegasos ODW systems ship with MorphOS along with Linux.

Eyetech markets the A1, they don't make it.

I of course, will recommend the open source OS, AROS (http://www.aros.org) as an x86 alternative to the expensive and under powered PPC systems and their mostly closed source OS.

Gosh dang it dammy,
Now don't go and confuse the poor boy.
by giving him a third choice, his head might explode
keep it simple, besides Intel boxes usually come bundled with the absolute horror know as Windows. That system has brought many a grown man to tears and worse....
Kgrach

I suppose choosing between AROS and the PPC systems depends on what the user wants to do. MorphOS on a Pegasos is a pretty satisfying replacement for a classic Amiga as far as user experience is concerned, being able to run a lot of the old 68k software as well as MOS-specific applications. I don't believe AROS is anywhere near that stage, but please correct me if I'm not up-to-date on that.
