New Amiga OS Website (http://os.amiga.com)

Cool!
Well done a.inc!

Maybe their "On-Line" Casino look will actually make money... but what does it offer me?
-
Is Amiga Inc. listed on any stock exchange? I may want to invest!

>Casino Jackpot Speed Devil
In some countries, gambling / casino is strictly forbidden.
Perhaps the local governments will ban Amiga.com website.
BTW who is the bikini model at "Speed Devil"? :-D
>Stock exchange
Some people may guess that Amiga Inc is financed by mobster who run Casino in Las Vegas / Atlantic City / Monaco / Macau. :-D

@asian1
KMOS is no more...
http://www.amiga.com/news/index.php?art=2
-
Well, good on ya HMetal :-). It's huge improvement over the 1500 different styles and subsites which A. Inc had before :-).
-
Now we finally know the reason why Kmos never had a website...
-
But why are there links to Cloanto and Hall of light and not to Hyperion and Eyetech?? Are they really planning to drop os4 like some rumours say?
edit: Ah I see, links to Hyperion and Eyetech are on the AmigaOS page..
-
>KMOS renamed to Amiga Inc
1. Escom bought Amiga Technologies after Commodore went bankrupt.
25 Apr 95
ESCOM continues well-known brand names "Commodore" and "Amiga". Amiga video/multimedia technology bought by auction.
Bochum/Heppenheim. ESCOM AG has obtained the rights of the Commodore group in the course of an auction in New York. The transaction includes all rights to intellectual property, technology, trade marks, and patents of Commodore and Amiga.
2. Amiga International Inc buy Amiga Technologies
May 16, 1997 - AMIGA International, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gateway 2000, Inc. (Nasdaq:GATE), has finalized the acquisition of the assets of AMIGA Technologies.
3. Amino Inc buy Amiga International and rename it as Amiga Inc.
On December 31st 1999, Gateway leaked news that the Amiga had been sold to Amino- a startup run by former employees Fleecy Moss and Bill McEwen.
By selling the Amiga name they had finally put an end to the harsh criticism from the Amiga community. They had what they wanted- the Amiga patents, and could continue to develop their AmigaObject technology under a different title
4. Itec bought Amiga OS from Amiga Inc.
5. KMOS bought Amiga OS from ITEC.
6. KMOS Inc bought Amiga Inc and rename KMOS Inc as Amiga Inc.
What's next?
-
Hopefully some action on the name :-)

From os.amiga.com (http://os.amiga.com)
AmigaOne Partners have the right to distribute AmigaOS 4.0 into the AmigaOne desktop computer market and into Cyberstorm PPC enabled devices. Distribution into any other market or device requires a licensing and distribution agreement with Amiga, Inc.
What does that mean? Does Hyperion not have a licence for a BlizzardPPC version of OS4 or is it just a matter of wrong formulation?
-
With the amount of mud slinging that goes on in this site at amiga.inc , i am suprised there is a link to this site on amiga.com, expecially as they are obviously trying to promote a profesional attitude
-
...as they are obviously trying to promote a profesional attitude
They want to start by sorting out a professional look first of all I would think :-o It's terrible at the minute!
-
Whats wrong with the look? Its clean and its easy to navigate, exactly what a professional website should be. What more can you ask for?
-
:roflmao:
Wake me up when it's time to say I told you so...
Offered my services and all for free.....Could they, just for once, get someone who knows what the community is expecting, to do something for them. Anyone Anywhere could see that the website falls far short of hopeful expectations. Man, what else can they screw up. :bigcry:
Look, I'm tempted to create a kinda mirror site to AmigaInc which is actually slick. I could scrape their own HTML for content on the fly.
I'd be ashamed to release such a crap website. :whack:
Surely it's not HMetal's doing. Is it Garry's kid or something? Oh, wait, is it that kid on the news page then? :quickdraw:
Let me describe this website with a single emoticon. :mickeymouse:
Been waiting for a reason to use that.
Ok. Going back to my happy place now. :admonish:

Folks,
Everyone here is certainly entitled to their opinions but I believe that the real issue is being overlooked. Will the "New" Amiga actually have anything to develop, show, or produce for the reamining user community? Websites are just a "place holder" on the internet to advertise a company. Now if you don't like their "new" look, then why not email them with constructive criticism (do not be rude or demeaning or your email will simply wind up in the virtual trashcan)? If after a few weeks you see no change, that will likely be a good (first) indicator of just how much attention the "new" company is willing to give to the remaining community.
I personally don't care for the look of their "new" website but that is the least of my concerns about the future of the AMIGA computer as we know / understand it.
So here is an opportunity for the "new" AMIGA Inc. Let's see what they do.
Regards,
ltstanfo
-
Any idea what they mean by this?
Please note, the development of future versions of the Amiga Operating System is not available for third party development or distribution.
Does this mean that all future versions of Amiga OS will be developed in house and that they will be the sole distributors?
-
>Questions about AmigaOS 4 etc
Hi
Mr Bill McEwen mention INTENT for 68K CPU several years ago.
If Amiga Inc ported AmigaDE /AA + Intent to AmigaOS 3.X + classic amiga 68K:
1. This will provide a bridge from Classic Amiga to the new AmigaOne.
Various applications for AmigaDE/AA can run without modification / re-compilation on both Classic Amiga and Amiga One.
2. Software developed on Classic Amiga + AmigaDE/AA can run on AmigaOne, Windows +X86, WinCE etc.
3. Software developed on AmigaOne, Windows + X86 +AmigaDE/AA, WinCE + AmigaDE/AA can run on classic amiga.
Will Amiga Inc release AmigaDE /AA for Amiga OS 3.X?

Their new address:
Amiga Incorporated

It's good to see the site back up. And, it's good to see the imaginary company KMOS is no officially just Amiga, Inc. like it always has been.
But, surely this didn't take over a month to produce?
Well, at least they got rid of the rediculous, "so the world may know", slogan.

Even thought it's more fitting ever now! :-D

Well, the layout is nice. It's very easy to navigate, and it seems to work perfectly in IBrowse (old site had some layout issues). It's a little "spartan" on content, though.
Anyone else notice that the Personal Computer in the AmigaAnywhere breakdown graphic is an A2000? :-D
Suggestions:
-Maybe make News the default page rather than Amiga Anywhere?
-Some uniformity to the navigation graphics would be nice.
-More content and information! (When's that huge OS4 Portal going to be launched?)
-Swap the position of the Home/News/Events links with the date.
-There doesn't seem to be a way to modify account info anymore. Might want to get to work on this!
-
From what I have read this could easyly mean the end for AmigaOS. It is clearly said that OS4 will come out only for AOne and Cyberstorm (unless someone is willig to buy an extralicense, what is quite unlikely).
There will be no further development on Amiga OS from third party (this includes Hyperion). That means once OS4 is out there will be no OS 4.1 unless AInc itself would develop it, what is even more unlikely, as they have stated that they have no interest in AmigaOS.
-
I'm starting to see what lead AHT over to AROS (http://www.aros.org) after some meeting with Amiga Inc. Now more then ever, Open Source is the only future, IMO. :kitty:

:-?
what the heck are you talking about?
You were expecting what? Tons of Flash and explosions, and god only knows what else?
I think it's clean and neat and easy to navigate and I can't TELL you how often I come across a site that is nothing but a mire of chaos! Just because some goof-ball wants it to look "cool".
If you need to satisfy certain criteria, then you create a site accordingly. I'm sure they wanted this site to be accessable by at least ONE amiga browser. I understand that because I;m right now in the process of adding things to my site for eventual sale on a CD. I have tried very hard to make it nice but still viewable with amiga browsers. And I go to the troiuble to see my pages under as many amiga browsers as I can find! (that includes looking at it on other systems like Peg and AmigaOne).
anyway, it's a good start and looks professional and friendly (ie, not COLD).
plus, a bit of egotism, here: my AmigaEast logo (https://www.amiga.com/events/) is on this site. (this was a pleasant surprise!)
so, feh on you! :-P

KMOS must have some interest in Amiga OS since they bought it even before they bought Amiga Inc. However, they have expressed little interest in Amiga OS on the desktop and if Gary Hare has any business sense it comes as no surprise. OS development is expensive and I doubt there is currently a big enough market for OS 4 and beyond on the desktop to support that development cost.
What exactly KMOS wants to do with Amiga OS is not clear. If maintaining a desktop version of Amiga OS alongside a version for whatever market Gary Hare plans on targetting requires very little effort, I would imagine that they would continue selling a desktop version. If they move the OS in a direction that would make it difficult to maintain a desktop version, I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped it. Even if they have a new version every year and they charge $50 for the upgrade, they'll probably have just enough to support one programmer working full time on the project. Even Apple can't maintain a rate of one new OS release a year and they surely have more than one programmer working on OS X.
IMHO, the only way Amiga OS on the desktop makes business sense is if the development is largely bankrolled by some other use of the OS making the development of the desktop version largely free.

I'm certainly looking forward to what AHT want to do! Now if we could just get that damn varargs() issue sorted out :-x

The page only need some small adjustments, the layout is ok, but the colors doesnt fit in, also a new logo/banner maybe.

Has anyone clicked on the news link on the new site?

That reminds me of this gem from Usenet's comp.sys.amiga.advocacy, circa 1994:
VNP NewsFlash - 05/09/94 - 4:00 p.m. EST
-- Amiga Technology Purchased --
Xoah Gib, spokesperson for Giama Ltd., announced today that
they have acquired the rights to the Amiga technology as part
of a deal with Commodore. Included in the buyout deal are
the rights to the AGA and AAA chipsets. The former is now used
in machines ranging from the CD-32 (a CD-i compatible) to the
Video Toaster (used for Star Trek and other television shows).
Although no exact details were provided concerning how the Amiga
technology is to be used, Xoah did hint that it would be a new
direction for the Amiga. Giama has been involved in the production
of slot machines as used in gambling establishments, many of which
are now using video displays. The Amiga technology provides for
very high-resolution displays not possible on other platforms,
perhaps providing Giama with the edge over competitors.
Mr. Gib has stated that there are no plans at the moment to restart
the halted production lines, but did not rule that out entirely for
the future. If and when the interactive set-top boxes become the
norm in homes, the Amiga techology could provide an excellent
vehicle for bringing gambling into the home. With connections to
the players credit lines there would be no need to use coins or
other currency when gambling. Xoah was quick to point out that
there will be protection against children using the systems, but
that there will be no artificial spending limits imposed upon
adults who wish to play. This is heralded as a major breakthrough
by the various gambling organizations, with several alreay in
negotiations with Giama to use their technology.
Eko Jasiti, head of Giama's technology division, provided a bit of
information as to why the Amiga technology was chosen over others.
The primary reason is the cost and flexibility of the hardware,
allowing Giama to get rid of extraneous parts such as the ROM and
disk drives. By using a custom ROM containing an updated version
of CP/M, Giama will be able to significantly lower the cost of
the units and make them much easier to update. Ms. Jasiti was able
to provide preliminary specs for the first machine:
AGA Chipset - 14.32MHz
68EC020 - 8MHz, 7.16MHz in operation
256k RAM - 64k for display, 32k for sound, 32k program, 128k data
256k ROM - 64k BIOS, 64k sound samples, 128k graphic images
GiamaNet - Proprietary network based on RS232
GiamaPort - Proprietary button controller based on 9pin ports
An engineer with Giama who asked to remain anonymous said that
he is very happy to see the Amiga finally making money. The Amiga
never did make much money for Commodore, although a few did profit
from it, but will make a lot of money for Giama. The engineer has
predicted that Giama's profits for the first year will easily beat
the total sales for C= in the last three years. (Skip Sauls)

Either that or the AmigaOne partners (Eyetech and Hyperion) have exclusive worldwide licenced rights to their respective parts of the project. This would exclude any other third party licencing deals with Amiga OS.
The Amiga OS part of the site basically says we own it but don't talk to us about it, talk to the AmigaOne Project parterners.
I assume that what it really means, is that as long as there is a dedicated third party developer for Amiga OS there will be future versions.
Then again there is that IRC Q&A with Gary Hare coming up...
-
This is what I find most interesting:
Now scheduled for commercial release in early 2005, AmigaOS 4.0 moves the Amiga Operating System to the modern Power PC chips
"Early 2005" eh? Well, it's the end of the first quarter in a couple of weeks.
Bring it on! :-D
-
Has anyone clicked on the news link on the new site?
I didn't see a news link, but if you add "/news" to the url, you can get to the news page. Looks like they're working on Amiga OS 5. :-D

Is it just me, or is gambling on electronic devices just about the slimiest thing ever, very fitting for Amiga, Inc.
Amiga.org is my homepage on Safari, I am greated with it every day when I open a new browser window, PLEASE do not have gambling here to keep up with the Amiga, Inc trend, or I may have to start lurking at:
http://cmdrkey.com/forum/index.php
That's another orphaned system that has an awesome following. Thank god that the only thing the trademark-owner-of-the-day has done is release the 64DTV! Check out the SuperCPU, it's how I accessed the internet (along with a Turbo232)
But I'm ranting, the whole casino games 'stuff' is still sinking in.
I was expecting better things from them!

Cool link, thanks for posting it. :-)

Off topic:
Amiga.org is my homepage on Safari
Have I ever said how much I utterly hate that fricking browser? Apple claim it's the fastest, most compatible browser bar none, which is a total and utter lie ;-)
It's OK for basic stuff but I literally waste hours at work having to fix perfectly good DOM javascript / CSS stuff to work with it. It crashes at the slightest provacation too.
Seriously, install Firefox on your Mac. You'll never touch Safari again ;-)
/end rant...

BigBenAussie if your in the mood to redesign an Amiga website, Open Video Toaster could use it very very badly and DiscreetFX would not mind at all.
There might even be some free software in it for you.
:-)
