Title: Powering both the g-rex and zorroII bus on a 1200, advice needed...
Post by: keropi on March 08, 2005, 10:36:18 PM
I have an RBM tower, and in order to use the BPPC + g-rex I must also keep the zorroII busboard... all fit PERFECT inside, but I am a little worried about powering the g-rex...
Can I safelly take one connector from the busboard and put it on the g-rex?
will it cause any trouble????

Thanx!

The short answer is no. Someone with electronics skills should be able to point you in the right direction. I'm assuming it's possible to split the lines you need and attach a separate connector. Or maybe there's an easier way.

are you sure? the g-rex also has a connector like that, but on the installation manual it says to connect just one...

Split the lines and power everything.

I'd rather power the Zorro2 buss that's not in use with the "HD->Motherboard powerplug" converter and power the Grex with the real motherboard powerplug that suppose to supply several PCI cards with power (at least I don't think the Z2 will work with PCI also running but you are welcome to enlighten me if I'm wrong).

well, the zorroII is there ONLY for providing a place for the ppc to connect to, no z2 cards will be used, and the amiga won't even know there is a z2 busboard present  :-D
and putting the "good" power line on the g-rex is a bad idea, because the z2 powers the ppc card, which draws more power... anyway, I have installed it with the way I described and everything is OK (I asked a couple of friends on #amigahellas that have g-rex's first...)

EDIT: NOT by removing the plug indicated with an arrow, but with the aid of my cable... be carefull!
