Hi
Hi have a null-modem cable that I just found back, been looking for it for ages, the thing was buried in an old closet.
It's an OLD laplink cable, the blue one with both DB25 & DB9 on one end, and a single DB9 on the other.
That makes for a PC<=>Amiga Connection, the Amiga end being plugged with the DB25 on my quite basic A4K.
Now I'm wondering :
# Is what I have in mind just possible ?
# What sort of software or shell command can I use on the amiga side to read and write dirs and files on the PC ?
# What sort of software or shell command can I use on the Linux side to read and write dirs and files on the Amiga ?
# Is it OK to HOT-plug in and out a serial port on a recent PC ?
# OK, if I *have* to use winDOS instead of Linux 4 that, in what direction should I look 1st ? I mean if a program exists that does that, please mention it :)
thanx

I just want to know is there is some form of term-based system to communicate between two standard serial ports
The thing is, that I was envisioning a connection to some TCP-IP stack such as AmiTCP, to finally get this A4K hooked to my small switched LAN without the pricey X-Surf board (http://www.powerc.com/cgi-bin/psearch.cgi?code=444-0023&rn=865&aid=&uid=ssIFLDF57.L3J.k&sid=&cid=4&act=gpage), to give the A4K a (private) IP ; this sounds doable !
The LAN is composed of one big debian potatoe Router/server, a D-Link switched HUB, and some RedHat boxes, brand new and old horses. Even a Win98 laptop.
What I want is to hook the amiga to the server thru the Serial port, since I have no current ethernet option :-(
I would then use it mainly for telnet apps, ftp and some nntp. And the usual LAN transfers.
Does anybody knows if this has been done before ?
I don't want to re-invent the wheel (sorry for this standard sad English)
thank you very much

I used this a long time ago with a parallel laplink cable
between ps/2 486 with linux and my amiga
http://uk.aminet.net/pub/aminet/comm/net/plip3818.lha
plip was faaast. well atleast for that kind of network
:-)
also tried this:
http://uk.aminet.net/pub/aminet/comm/misc/PC2Am308.lha
think it also worked dont remember

also a simpler and more error proof soluttion if you only want to transfere files is to use
ncomm (http:// http://uk.aminet.net/pub/aminet/comm/term/ncomm30.lha)
ncomm update (http://uk.aminet.net/pub/aminet/comm/term/ncomm306.lha)
ncomm free keyfile (http://uk.aminet.net/pub/aminet/comm/term/NComm306PubKey.lha)
and hyperterm in windows
or minicom in linux.
then use zmodem transfere

Oh and maybe the way you would like most would be to use slip (serial line internet protocol)
linux slip setup (http://www.superant.com/cgi-bin/smalllinux.pl?Slip_Networking)
amiga slip setup (http://www.legendjsm.net/ukpg/amiga/slipnet/setup.html)

WOW ! Thanks aragorn, now I've got something to eat :-)
will print this out right away (I *do* mind trees, but I'm diving in subway and my pilot is broken) :-( (I *NEED* a peg 665 (http://sonyelectronics.sonystyle.com/micros/clie/models/665.html)!!!!! :pissed: :pissed: :pissed: )
