Title: Mediator SX
Post by: on March 02, 2005, 10:55:16 PM
I just won a Mediator SX on ebay, this is the first mediator i've owned.  Is there anything I need to know?

I presume I need to get the OpenPCI drivers.

I haven't got an accelerator card yet, as I lost on a BPPC due to some idiot paying a stupid amount of money for it.  Would I be right in thinking I need some form of accelerator before i can use the mediator?

You don't need to get the OpenPCI drivers as the MMCD which should come with the Mediator has drivers for Virge, Voodoo 3/4/5, network and sound cards.  And when you register with Elbox as a Mediator owner they will send the latest versions of the drivers to your email.  You also need Warp3D and Picasso96.

Join the Amiga mediator Yahoo mailing list (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Amiga-Mediator) where you will be able to get more help on setting it all up.

You need an 030 minimum and some fast RAM too, but a PPC isn't necessary.

Thanks Lando,

I have an S3 Trio64V+ PCI card knocking around, do you know if this is supported with the Virge driver?

From the Elbox Mediator Driver Guide (http://www.elbox.com/mediator_driver_guide.html), the support ViRGE chipsets are as follows.

S3 ViRGE DX 86C375
S3 ViRGE 86C325

I guess not then. :-)

I'll have to get myself a Voodoo PCI methinks.

Cheers.

Just curious...Was that the UK auction with no picture available, in which the description said something like "I think this is Mediator SX, but not sure", or something along those lines?

It was this one Mediator (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5169000783&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT)

he was selling a BPPC too, but i thought £170 was a bit excessive for a 166 603e with a 25MHz 040.

Yes, that's the auction that I was referring to.

I doubt that you will actually be getting a Mediator SX. You need to check if it's the 6 PCI slot version, or 4 PCI slot version.

SX (http://www.elbox.com/products/mediator_pci_1200_sx.html) is newer (6 slots), Mediator PCI 1200 (http://www.elbox.com/products/mediator_pci_1200.html) is the original version (older, 4 slots). There are also other alternatives such as the lite 2 slot version.

SX is slightly superior due to reworked logic, obviously more PCI slots, direct ATX power supply support, and I believe it can also support m801 audio chipset, and the old one cannot.

Since the seller says "it was one of the first ones, before they brought out the other variants", I highly doubt it's actually the SX model, but probably the original. :-(

Well, I've not paid for it yet.  I've emailed to see how much postage i'm supposed to pay but he hasn't replied yet.  I'll send another email to see if it is an SX or not.  If it isn't i'm not paying. :-(

I emailed him yesterday asking for a pic or a detailed description, and he replied that it had the multimedia chips ? and that it was ver1.0 ... AFAIK, v1 has 4 slots...

I've mailed to ask him if it has 6 slots, and if he can send me a picture.  I'll decide what to do when he replies.

For the price I've won itfor, I could buy a brand new 4-slot Mediator from Elbox.

I'm afraid that the 4 slot version is not available now... :-(

@mdma
You should contact the original owner of the board and ask him to write to elbox for the change of ownership. Otherwise try to write directly to Elbox.... s oyou can receive officail updates in your mailbox.

Hmmmmmmmm.....

This guy isn't replying to my emails.

Maybe he's at work with no net access or something.  I'll give him until late tonight before I start looking for another. :-/

I've reported this guy to ebay for continously ignoring my emails for the last two days.

I'll give him until sunday, then I'll leave extremely unfavourable negative feedback for him if he hasn't replied to me.

Hopefully ebay can sort it out.  :pissed:

He's replied, and it is a Mediator 1200 PCI or maybe an LT4 with 4 slots.  He's agreed to let me have it for £85 including P&P, which is not a bad price really. :-D

I'm a happy bunny now!

Mediator 1200 rev1.0 for £85? MMCD enclosed?

£85 = US$163 today

The factory new Mediator 1200 LT4 with 2-year warranty, with the newest MMCD costs at elbox online store US$162.95  http://buy.elbox.com/cgibin/shop?info=212M12L4 The price covers P&P as they have free shipping offer now. Mediator LT4 has better software support than old Mediator 1200 even if MMCD is enclosed to this old board. E.g. with Mediator LT4 you can use Terratec sound cards, which have never been supported with old mediator 1200 models.

Are you sure that this deal is really good for you? :-?

Don't your prefer to have new board? Better supported? Don't you prefer to support company, which develop amiga products instead of supporting someone, who probably abandons amiga platform?

Brand new LT4 is €149.95 which is £103.28 according to xe.com currency converter, my bank has hidden charges that I will have to pay for paying in euros on my debit card too.  The final price will be closer to £120 for me.

All I want to run on my Mediator is a 4MB Virge DX that I bought for 99 pence on ebay, an RTL8139 ethernet card, and my old SBLive soundcard.

I've just bought a brand new Fast ATA MK-III from Elbox two days ago.

If you live in Europe, then the LT4 costs 186.65$ (because of taxes)
