Hi all,
I used to have a 500 and cdtv back in the day. Recently I purchased a 1200 which I'm going to tower and look forward to reading through the articles on this board while doing so. Any advice about towering a 1200 is appreciated :)

Welcome! I've got an A1200 that I'm not going to tower. Lots of luck on your new project!

A good place to look is http://www.swaug.org.uk/a1200-tower.php - a tutorial on towering your Amiga 1200

Make sure you get 2 A1200s :-)
I say this because after owning a tower for a while you will likely crave a second machine, in it's original guise.

(I'm chasing you around today, Karlos...)
If I had the interest, I'd scrape up a 1200 desktop unit and with the exception of adding a far, far beefier power supply really trick it out all inside it's case.
1st: Aforementioned PSU
2nd: interior RF sheild? Gone!
3rd: add an accellerator of some kind. '040 or '060. Plus requisite RAM. Maybe even track down a BPPC with Bvision to stuff inside.
4th: Buffered IDE interface + low-profile 3.5 HD where the internal floppy used to sit
5th: internal slimline CD-ROM trick as featured on some websites
6th: FANS FANS FANS! Gonna be warm in there!
7th: Subway USB interface on the clockport - that would solve any issues regarding connecting it to a network (via adapter) and external storage.
8th: External floppy drive
9th: upgrade to 3.9
...
Heh. But for that price I could buy four PCs and have one dedicated to Amithlon, another to WinUAE, a third to AROS and the fourth for general PC use! :-o

Aaah, I can smell the melting hardware from here :-D

I pose this Question in General
Why TOwer an A1200? and ruin a perfectly portable machine?
Why not just get a plain A4000 desktop and tower that?
Heck it will cost you the same as a 4000 once you tower the A1200 or even more in buying the parts needed to tower it.
A4000 already have the slots needed and is probably more reliable.

But for about five minutes, you'd have the most badassed
A1200-D ever! :-D

I actually got away with a BPPC in an A1200D for ages, but that still involved a bunch of fans forcing an airflow throught the case. Your hands would get pretty cold if you left them near the back vents.
Nothing would convince me to put a BVision into a desktop case though. Those buggers generate heat that makes an 040/40MHz seem like an ice cube...

Thanks for the advice guys, cheers for the link Technoid :D

As I posted before, "Amiga 1200 upgrade tips?", it's been done.

The system was eventually towered, and it still runs perfectly! It was used hard every day for well over 2 years in the set-up I posted. My system was topped by another member in my user group. He had a faster blizzard and a Delfina sound card as well as the BVision.

After much thought I decided to buy a A1200 tower system from ebay and keep my present A1200 intact. I think this tower has a lot of potential and provides a good foundation for upgrades; I’m going to start with OS3.9, an accelerator and 3.1 roms. Then see what else I can add :)
Cheers for the advice.
Heres the tower if anyone’s interested; at just £100 I think it’s a Bargain.

Looking at those pictures has made me think...
I have two A1200 keyboards in the house. Does anyone make a casing for A1200 keyboards so that they can be used with towers instead of purchasing a PC keyboard adapter? I have an A1200 in a Power Tower, but I use it with the supplied cheapo PC keyboard.
