Hi all
I have got a CV64/3D (no scandoubler) for my setup, which is
Amiga 2000 rev 6.2
Blizzard 2060 68060 at 50Mhz, SCSI and 128 Mb fast
Multi I/O
A2032 -- http://www.amiga-hardware.com/showhardware.cgi?HARDID=486
Tandem IDE (oktagon device)
AT 286 BridgeBoard from C= for Ethernet purpouses
Wb 3.9 BB2, VisualPrefs, FullPallete, and some minor cosmetic patches.
I have been using Picasso96 2.0 for a lot of time with the very same
setup but with one GVP Spectrum24 instead of the CV64/3D, with a very
good results.im quite satisfied with picasso software.
The subject is that I have reinstalled picasso software in order to
get drivers installed for the CV64, and it worked fine for the first
time botted.
Well, The thing is that now when I boot , some times the CV is started and
sometimes not.
When I start the system with a saved RTG P96 mode i only get black
screen on PAL output and no image at all on SVGA monitor, and when I
boot up with a ECS native mode,wb is displayed correclty in RGB output but on SVGA monitor activity at all (all
of this with the Cvision3D monitor file in Devs:Monitors).NO mater if i go dobleclick on the Cvision3D monitor file.
Also tried without any cards on the system but turboboard, the A2032
and the CV64. Same result.
Well. Tried to install theugly CGX software. The CV64 works correctly
100% times booted in RTG correctly.
Any idea?I really dunno whats happening here
Best Regards and thank you in advance

yep it could happen . . . CGX and P96 acts in a different way from a system point of view.
I've got problems with P96 fixed with CGX and viceversa.
Stay with the RTG system that works fine in your configuration . . . to speak about a bug in P96 . . don't know.
I've seen worse things in CGX also :-)

But its totally weird!
I have read many times that ppl are using P96 with CV3D. I have been using P96 in all rtg systems i have had up to date, and I was very satisfied.
I have tested CGX for a pair of days. I really prefer the taste of P96, and I feel it much faster than CGX. I wanna mean MUCH faster.
Any idea? Help Pls!
-
probably the problem is the CV643D-A2032 companion.
Try without the A2032.
About the speed, i've used P96 for a life with the CV64 (not 3D) and it only feels faster but it isn't.
Do you mean the slow WB backdrop redrawn under CGX?
It is the only thing, that is slower in CGX respect P96.
Try P96Speed with CGX, and you will see how faster is CGX in all the operation.
Anyway as already said, use the RTG system that "feels" better for yourtaste.

I have got out the A2032 from the 2k video slot and the Cv64/3d inicialization under p96 is intermitent.
I only have to change the p96 monitor file for the CGX monitor file and the RTG comesback to life 100% times booted.
Yeah I feel the redraw faster on P96, much faster indeed. Also my pointer is ugly under CGX (maybe I have to setup some tooltypes or sth under cgx.I dunno. Its the very first time I use cgx soft)
Im making nuts myself.
Grazie for trying to help Franco

ohh remember to remove all the CGX libraries also when you switch from CGX to P96 and viceversa or you will not able to boot again.
-
Having both CGX and P96 installed at the same time isn't the smartest thing to do, even if you think you disabled one by removing it's monitor file.
-
:-D
-
Well, it happens the very same in a fresh 3.9 with only P96 installed. So I think it doesnt matter at all.
-
anyway, you can't mix P96 with CGX . . .never.
-
Well, I used years both, just swapping monitor files for PIV and CV3D and even PII+. Only had to remember the screenmode.prefs were not working when changing. The systems were indeed incompatible earlier but after hard times CGX and P96 guys were shaking hands and allowed co-operation. But it might confuse less skilled users.

Hello,
I used to use a CV64-3D with P96 on my A2000.
Once in a while, when I booted up my Amiga, the RTG screen stayed black.
After many trials, I found it was the monitor driver I had chosen during the P96 installation. The horizontal frequency was a bit too high and from time to time the monitor didn't manage to sync on the RTG display. I choosed a lower frequency driver, and everything went well. I don't know if it could be this thing in your case, but you cuold check to make sure your frequency settings comply with your monitor.

Installed a new fresh 3.9 BB1 & BB2, and Picasso from the files area of picasso home page.
It results the same.
Any idea pls. Im desperated.
CGX works but, i feel it slower (I can see the backdrop redrawing when moving a window) and the pointer is HUGE. If i set the pinter to "hires" in the 3.9's pointer prefs, it looks ugly and deformed!
Whats the better tooltypes and environment variables for CGX indeed?

I have used both CV64 and CV64/3D with A4000 and both P96 and CGX. My feeling is that CGX is faster than P96 when used with Phase 5 ie CV cards. My settings are (cgx v4):
Alertmenu is on ("1")
nopassthrough is off
supergel is on
wbpatspeedup is on
cpup2c is on
hirescrsr is on
planes2fast is off (means i can use scala and other native video modes on my 1084)
superlayers is on
56khzaudio is off so i can use pal modes
forcechunky is off
keepamigavideo is off
savmem is off
usesemaphores is on
nomouseratio is of
tooltypes: advancedclk is on
dragging is off
scrollmask is on
bitmapcache is on
bootlogo is off
multimediamem is off (only for cv64/3d)
passthrough is on

Tried that settings.
It solved issues like ugly pointer and so, but It still draw the screen really slow when you compare to PIcasso96 driver.
There is any Picasso96 mailing list or similar?
I have read that some 2k mobbos are partially incompatible with some card, but since mine is realtive modern 6.2 i think its not the case. I have read abou 6.2C.
Where I can find if mine is or not one of that? Or maybe 6.2C is already 6.2...

I would uninstall picasso96 and cgx and start fresh. u should remove all libraries and rtg monitor files and any rtg settings in prefs/env-arch. i would then boot into a pal screen and install cgx. it soumds like u r using cgx v3. there are updates on the cgx home page for cgx 3, but the best version is cgx4, but this costs money. unless there is something unique about the A2000 I can state that on my A4000 cgx felt more responsive, faster to redraw, the pointer movement was much smoother, as was icon dragging. i would still argue that for Phase 5 HW use Phase 5 software ie cgx.
-
Try removing any hacks that might be graphics related eg Visual prefs, birdie and mcp and then try to install cgx (with all of the stupid double negative questions in the installer). use the settings i gave u.
-
I have tried it under CGX4, but some tooltypes you gave me, are missing in my config!
What about of the picture.datatype for CGX available in aminet?
Anyone knows if there is any address to post p96 related questions, or any support email/mailing list still working?
Best Regards
