I got my amiga out a few days ago or so and forget that i had a cd drive but i could not get it to fire up the hard drive so i got a 4 gig hd 2.5 in and put it in the amiga and installed the OS 3.1 all gose fine. found the drive on the internet for my cd drive and installed them.
all working fine at this point.
so i got so 3.1 roms for it and put them in and i can not get the cd drive to work any more but as soon as i put the old roms in its fine again.
its a alfa data cd1200 controller
i even try idefix97
not sure what else to do please help :-)

Hi,
Strange one that...
What were you using before to access the cdrom?
Better with IDEFix (CD-ROM driver) i think.
Is there a line starting up IDEFIX near the top of your startup sequence?
Anyone else have an idea?
-
I'm using the same PCMCIA cd controller as you and I have the same setup as you (except a Blizzard 1260)
I used the CD1200 install disk that came with the Alfa data cd controller, If I use IDEFIX straight away after the WB install the "find device" in the package can't find the cd-rom.
Please give a little but more detailed information how you did when you installed the cd-rom drive/software for it.

ok with the version 3.0 Roms in the amiga
installed WB 3.1
then installed cd1200 floppy and at that point i can start using the cd all fine installed lots of stuf from it
recived amiga 3.1 Roms yesurday put them in and then i could no longer use the cd drive every time i look for it could not find it...
so i start looking around the internet and find that idefix may help so i download it and use the demo version for now.
still can not see the drive.
so i think ok maybe i messed something up just before i put the new 3.1 roms in.
so i format the HD and start again
install WB 3.1
start to use cd1200 disk to install but it can not see cd drive
so use idefix still can not find it
put old rom 3.0 back in and can see the cd from the start
also yes it was using idefix in the startup-sequence
i think i get a error message on boot on the 3.1 roms if i have the cd1200 drive set to lood on boot
once i have finished copy files from cd back to HD and have put back the 3.1 roms i will post the error
Thanks Ray :-)

ok i think i have found the problem
i belive its my extra memory card as i tock out the card to when i was putting the Roms in so i could get the error message i did not put the extra memory in.
the cd drive worked fine
so i thought i plug the extra memory in and then ther cd drive stoped working
i dont only have a stadard extra memory card with 8 meg on it.
weird
thanks :-?

It's worth noting that trapdoor memory expansions arent PCMCIA friendly with 8mb in, as the 68020 runs out of memory addressed, afaik, try getting hold of a 4mb simm for it, or a cheap accelerator that is pcmcia friendly, like the Blizzard 1230.

thanks for that info i still have the 8meg sim in there but set it to 4 meg and that sorted that problem
