Title: Picasso IV Screen probs.
Post by: J-Golden on February 25, 2005, 04:15:13 AM
Racking up the posts today....

My Picasso is running dirt slow.  If I put up a pic as a backdrop, it wips all backdrops from every catagory and won't let me switch screen modes.

Also

If I use VGA Productivity mode, I get a double image that is impossible to read.  This suckz as that is the native Screen mode for early startup for both the A-OS and my Cyberstorm (not the P-IV of course).

Thoughts, Ideas, Regurgitations?

TANKZ!

Maybe you got the same virus that crashed Strongbad's computer?

Maybe the previous owner (if any) has used PicassoModeTNG to change the output frequencies for the VGA Productivity mode so that they are not compatible with your monitor? Try a different monitor, and use the PicassoModeTNG utility to check.

did the picassomode TNG thing but it doesn't list the VGA mode on it....

It lists my monitor as low as 30 KHz.

the BootVGA: Productivity mode is 29.29 KHz.

I tried a monitor that does sync down to 15 KHz. but get the same screen problem....

OK!!!!

Found the problem and fixed it to the best of my ability.

The problem was with the Cyberstorm Accel.

There is an early boot option for it to set all early starup screens to a 31KHz. mode.  It literally creates a screen mode other then NTSC or PAL called -> VGA BOOT: Productivity!!!!

and this type don't jive w/ the picasso IV.

Once I disabled it, the early startup menu for A-OS is fine and any shell that is open before WB is loaded is fine. The VGABoot: Prod ScreenMode doesn't show up as an option any more either.

Only prob. is the Accel. startup screen perminantly uses this screen mode so there is no fix for it that I know of. :(

Thankz for all your help!

i'm not 100% sure to have understood but . .  .the EarlySS screen of the CS can be switched with the space bar, leaving to the PIV scandoubler, promote it to VGA:

o ECS/AA 31khz support
the Bootmenu now ALWAYS pops up in 31khz mode, so
people with 15khz monitors have to use to
switch the resolution to 15khz INTERLACE.
The resolution is saved too in the flash so the next
time it uses the resolution you set.
The resolution switch is disabled if there`s a permedia
    card found.
