X-ray's picture wins first prize, hands down. :-)
-
Pah, it's not just size that matters you know :p.

Cool, though it would be nice if the nicknames were displayed under each pic... ok I'm being picky :-P
-
well, on MY browser (neener neener) :lol: i can hold the mouse over the pic and the name of the pic (and therefore the person) pops up.
(that's because Opera can interpret "title" code)

Yeah, I can do that too... but I prefer to but a face to a name, rather than a name to a face. :crazy:
-
Thanks!
I used a small application to generate the gallery, and unfortunately, it doesn't have an option to show names under the images. If I find another application that supports it, then I'll do it. Until then, you have to use proper browsers! :-D
It's on a fast server ('broadband dot net' :-P), so even modem users should be able to use the site!
-
Er, I can't see anything...
PS I am using lynx (jk)
-
What about Sumner7's pic?!
-
What about it?
-
:lol: nice comeback ;-)

You can't really look at it without laughing :-)

no wonder, you should scroll more, with just a resolution of 160x102
(original atari lynx resolution ;-))

@ Whabang and Wayne
On a related note, I only just noticed a new category called 'Faces of Amiga.org' in the Photo Album. What does this mean, that the existing pics will be migrated there, or is this a duplicate faces of Amiga.org?
-
@speel
I meant lynx the browser, not lynx the handheld games thingy :-)
-
@X-ray
That link's been there since Punkie hosted the faces ;-)
whabang took over when Punkie left a while back - it was announced at the time and it's mentioned in the second post in this very thread by whabang himself ;-)
-
@ Vincent
No, my good man, I am not refering to the link to faces of A.org (where all the faces currently are), I am referring to the category called Faces of Amiga.org, in our photo album. It currently has only two faces in it, both of which were added after Whabang took over (edit: took over the 'real' faces of Amiga), and after this thread was started.
Come on, I can't be that dopey, eh?
-
Ah, I didn't know about the section in the photo album. That combined with a misreading of your post makes me the dopey one :-P

We do all have our moments ;-)
-
I was under the impression that the Faces project was dead, so I added the category to the images gallery in hopes that people would migrate them here.
When I tried the link in the menu, it was dead, now it works, but it doesn't really help that there are no descriptions of who is what on the other page.
If you want me to take the new category down, I'll be happy to, but the project needs to be shored up a little bit.

@Wayne:
The only giveaway at the moment on who's who are all the individual image filenames.
-
Well, my point is that I don't want to upset anyone by adding the category. I really thought the project was dead, so I added the category (but had not yet advertised it).
The current one doesn't even have any indication of who's running it, who to contact, or how (as an Amiga.org user) to add a picture for new users.
I just thought moving it to the AO image gallery would have the benefit of people being able to add themselves, describe themselves, and even add multiple (larger) pictures. Sorry if I'm out of line.

@Wayne:
Sounds like a good idea to me, to have the "faces" stored locally other than on a totally separate webpage/server.
-
@Wayne
Just how much server space do you have? :-D
-
More than you can fill up with small pictures.
-
Say, does that mean we could have an increase in our avatar size / file length?
/ducks...
Ah, I can remember the days when 16000 bytes were allowed. Oh the fun :-)
-
No. Avatar size is fine. Avatar size has nothing to do with hard drive space. It has to do with how much data is loaded each time the page loads. At 16k, that means that on EACH forum page, it would be loading 320k worth of avatars alone (duplicate posters and caching notwithstanding).
For our 56k people, that's too much.
Wayne
-
Hum,
so its a question about size, not length?
-
@Wayne
Fair point, of course. I wasn't entirely serious; you have explained this issue in the past several times. That said, I'm on 56K here at home and never really noticed a problem in the past when the limit was higher.
I suppose it also comes down to the maximum number of posts displayed per page too (which logically determines the maximum number of avatar images)
@blobrana
Ultimately it's file length that is the issue. However, by downsizing the maximum area of the avatars so the average file size should go down as well.

How obvious does an innuendo have to be before you spot it? :lol:

-
Oi! Don't count me out just yet! :-D
I'd be happy to send you the pictures if you're going to host them locally, Wayne. A little cooler to have it on the actual site!
-
There will be another update next week. I am going to put proper names on the pages then.
