Is there any way I can use my CD32 as a CDROM drive for my A1200? Preferably so it actually shows up as CD0 but I don't particularly mind.

Yes there is, But you will need another piece of hardware called the communicator If you can find one. This is a box that connects to the serial port on the side of the CD32, But is really only useful for transfering files.

The transfer rate is extremely slow because it is via the serial port, So is not practical for running game on. I used to use one and i think i still have it. I had tried running a few game with it and most of them would crash. Thoughs that did run took ages to load, Got bored and gave up.
Get yourself squirrel scsi interface and a scsi cd-rom drive or a buffered ide interface and a ide cd-rom drive. These combinations will be so much more useful than hooking up a very slow serial connection between your 1200 and CD32.

does someone here rememmber those white cd 32 lookalike cd addons for the 1200 used pcmcia slot.is there no way to network a cd 32 other then serial what about sx ??? would be better to mount network cd drive as cdo.or if you have a pc(WINX86) mount the shared cd rom on the pc as cd1 possibly cd0 and rock and roll..

I do own Network PC from Weird Science. But my understanding was that PC drives didn't read Amiga CDs properly. That's why I wanted to use the CD32. Can Network PC work over TCP/IP? Because if it can it wouldn't be that slow anyway. But I don't think Network PC can mount as CD0.

so what if u use pcmcia? on my system with a 060/50 the pcmcia 10MBPS lan connection is ~50-60 kb/sec...
I don't know if I missed a setting, but it's not that fast...

well it is an alternative if you dont want to buy new stuff so you can add cd to your 1200.

never had anny problems so far here used stuff like os3.9 disc .HEIMDAL 2 ++++games .cucd"s from 96-97 no problems.but be aware dont try to play games on network this is slow use whdloads for cd 32 games and install on disk(hd)

@keropi
You should be getting much faster than 50-60KB/s on that setup. But, what TCP/IP stack are you using, and more importantly how are you measuring the 50-60KB/s speed. (ie. FTP has much less overhead than SMB traffic.)

With my pcmcia card 10Mbit/s i get 400-500 kbit at best with a Blizzard 603/200 060/50 96Mb and BVision.
And it's all on my towered A1200.

@keropi
I managed to get over 850 KB/sec speeds with ftp, on A1200 BPPC 060 and pcmcia nic.

IIRC cu Amiga magazine , in one of his numbres that came with that little CD32 libretto inside, showed a cable conection for cd32 to 1200.
I think it was a simple cble, no box at all.
Maybe someone has the schematics which IIRC came with the magazine.
