Are there any Amiga Users in the Houston area besides me?
Do any of you know how to work a soldering iron?
My trusty A1200T Elbox Power Tower stopped working yesterday
due to a short in the keyboard connector. :boohoo:
Since that time my life has become void and without meaning or purpose. :bigcry:
Maybe some nice friendly person out there could solder it
back together for me? :-)

What do I get if I say 'yes'?

Er.....
Houston we have a problem?....:-P
@methuselas:
Ey dude! WTF have you been hiding! Good to see you're still alive :-).
Hmmm mipsproc back, now you. What's next? Kees knocking on the door again? :-).

Well I'm only 2 hours "down the road" in Lake Charles, LA. Unfortunately, I don't own a soldering iron and from my limited experiences with one, it's probably just as well!
Seriously, if it is only a problem with the keyboard connector (I have an Elbox A1200 tower too) then just take it along to a local computer repair shop(or even TV repair shop) and they can do simple soldering for you. Failing that, you can order a replacement keyboard connector from either Elbox or Power Computing.
Besides, why even use solder? I thought all you "Suthern Boys" use duct-tape? ;-)

Nope, I'm about 5 hrs north of you in Greenville. Be interesting to see how many are in Texas and sorrounding area though.

A: I'll be your friend for life :-)
or
B: I will create a Legendary Hero character named after
you in the epic battle strategy game: Total Chaos.
Or a monster or magic spell or artifact.

Hmmmm.... ok I will try to fix my loose connector with duct-tape.

Let's see - in my line of business, pipe organ building, the hacks that don't know what they're doing use silicone and duct tape all over the place :)
I think I did get a computer off eBay once with something duct taped though!
Good luck with the connector.
PS - Ever see the Red Green movie? It's got a duct tape sculpture tournment . . .
-
c'mon.......
go for it, Methuselas!!!
5 minutes with the iron is all it'll take. I'm in houston and I'm NO good with one. Burned out a PSX mobo trying to solder a mod chip in it!!

@ Chaos.
Well, I might be able to help you with your loose connector problem. I just so happens that I *DO* know how to solder and own a soldering gun. Send me a PM and I'll see what I can't do to help you.
@ Odin,
Life's okay, Mate. I've lost 5 family members in as many months and my job just demoted me, rather sneakily, I might add. Still single, but I started working on my graphic novel again, so things seem better than they actually are. Hope that all has been well with you..

Thanx mate! :-)
But I took that other guy's advice and tried duct tape.
Duct tape WORKS! Wahoo!!!!!!!!
But if u know how to reactivate my samba networking between the PC<->Amiga that could be nice :-)
I had it working perfectly for years. Then I didn't use it for a long time... and some idiot kept trying to hack my miggy on my DSL static IP. Each attempt they made caused STUPID Samba to access the HD. It was very annoying to see my Amiga HD light go on/off constantly so I disabled settings until it stopped. Now I donno which settings to change where to get it working again. :-?
I am speaking of a standard ethernet network connection.

No, but I'd like to see how samba works? I've been wanting to network now that I have a full time Amithlon box. :-D
