Does indeed sound like a timing problem, 1d.4 and 2B revisions our well known for this.
Dunno which is cheaper but i got one of my boards fixed by Eyetech, very prompt & reliable service there as always.
I'd also get whoever your getting it fixed with to  maybe test your setup so that it does indeed fix your problem.

Good luck.

if you have a 1d4 with the right version of budgie, the timing fix is dead simple, I did it myself on my 1d.4 with buggie rev 01, it simply envolved removing 2 SMT capacitors from ythe underside of the mobo. Revision 02 requires a little more fiddling and soldering on some resistors.

I've had several different A1200s, including 1D1 and 1D4, and I've never had any problem that could be related to timing issues, even though my machine was overexpanded with a Mediator, PowerFlyer, Blizzard PPC and more.

Am I just lucky? :-D
