Is there ANY decent scandanavian music other than house music?
-
@MDMA
Well, there's Jean Sibelius, and there's Grieg,
and probably a hell of a lot more
-
Er...where to begin....
/me takes a look at his CDs...
Apocalyptica
Mari Boine
Blåmann
Desertplanet.com
Gartnerlosjen
Gjallarhorn
Gåte
Hagalaz' Runedance
Hammerfall
Hedningarna
HIM (yes..I know...debatable :)
Kaizers Orchestra
Madrugada
Múm
Sígur Rós
That is...if you include the Icelanders and Finns :-).
-edit-
Hmm indeed, got some Grieg in there too. And tonight I'll be seeing a really cool (or so I've been told) Swedish band called Audrey (in O'Caelleighs).
-
Finns ARE Scandinavians, aren't they :-?
-
That is an ever ongoing question, as to what Scandinavia is :-). I think the most accepted definition is that Scandinavia is N/S/DK, while 'Norden' (as in 'Nordic') includes SF, ISL and Greenland (and the islands such as Færoer, Åland, Svalbard (technically SF though IIRC) and stuff).
-edit-
Oh and don't forget the Scandivians in Amigaland such as Dr. Awesome :-).
-
Aye!
/me plays 12th warrior
-
Yay! I like ABBA AND Ace of Base AND Roxette!! So bite me!
:flame:
-
*bites graffias*
-
There's one other forgotten Swedish atrocity (he is Swedish IIRC)
Dr Alban:
He who memorably inflicted "It's my life" on us back in 1992.
Doh!

Quite why they used it to advertise Tampax I'll never know! :-o

Off course. This album proves it:
Heart attack vol. 1 (http://www.burningheart.com/bands/index.php?id=211)
-
Gaah! Anything from Bruning heart records is doomed!
Now I can't get "Move your car" out of my head! :-D
-

Yes, the brutal invasion of Scania back in the 1600s! :pissed:
I wish the U.S. (or Denmark :-P) could come and liberate us!
Err...
Yeah, Dr. Alban is "Swedish". :-)
-
Anyone remember "The Cardigans" with "Love Me, Love Me" (1997)?

-
YARGH!
See it like this:
You think you've heard a song much? Think of us poor {bleep}s that actually live in Sweden. It's impossible to listen to radio (with the exception of a few state-run channels) and not turn it off immediately; they're simply playing the crap over and over again. Whatever you get, we get it tenfold. :-(
-
What do about us Dutchies then? Or what about Germans?
I think you've heard nothing yet :-D :-P
Better enjoy the borderline humour about it (though that humour can be nervewrecking)
-
Haha!
Dutch schlager is a horror that I thought only existed in books!

No, the books were no fiction (http://www.amiga.org/images/subject/icon26.gif)
It exists! (http://amigaworld.net/images/smilies/icon_worship.gif)
Btw. I wonder if the Geneva convention is applicable to these performed atrocities, and whether a tribunal can be installed for this :-?
-
>Dutch
Maywood is a duo from Dutch with similar genre:
"Mother How Are You Today"
"Give Me Back My Love"
Anyone remember this duo / songs?

The germans have no right to moan about any music at all, as they actually bought records by David Hasselhoff by the bucket load! :-o :-?
Shame really, as there has been some fine music to come out of Germany in recent years.
-edit
And the Dutch, well Patrik Prins comes from Holland so I forgive you for any other rubbish you may have churned out. :-D
-
Sígur Rós are great, but I don't know that I consider Iceland part of Scandinavia. Not for me to decide though. ;-)
Sweden was of course home to the legendary hardcore-punk band Refused. :-)
