Title: Hitch: Romantic Comedy (Will Smith)
Post by: asian1 on February 14, 2005, 04:06:46 PM
Hi
Hitch is the top romantic movie in US (US$ 42 M in the first week).
Stars: Will Smith, Kevin James, Eva Mendes, and Amber Valletta.

Is this a great movie?

I'd rather be castrated than watch that tripe.

It's a typical date movie. I watched it over the weekend with my girlfriend and she enjoyed it very much. As for me...I guess it was OK, but I'd rather be watching...something like this (http://www.homevideos.com/moments/predator.htm). ;-)

Agh!  The dreaded Romantic Comedy (tm).

For the most part I find them mindless, melodromatic dross.  I had to endure "My Best Friend's Wedding" once and was staggered at how contrived and banal it was.  I'd rather put my chumleys in a vice than sit through it again.

My checklist is as follows:

1) Does it feature J Lo?
2) Is the soundtrack by Wet Wet Wet?
3) Does Hugh Grant star?
4) Does the blurb feature the words "life". "changing" or "relationship"?
5) Has it won an award from Cosmopolitan?

Although, I did manage a smirk at Bridget Jones Dairy and When Harry Met Sally was faintly clever in a soppy sort of a way....

Nothing wrong with Romantic comedies!!! Shaun of the Dead was great, and that was a Romcom... with zombies...
