Title: Looking for a modtune
Post by: Cymric on February 03, 2005, 11:51:48 PM
I am looking for a particular modtune, or rather, the modtune itself without the loader which came attached :-). The tune is called 'Pipes of Lost Time' by Nicholas Heaps, and it appeared on the coverdisk of the december 1990 issue of Amiga Computing. I've been able to track down that particular disk as .adf, but I can't extract the program (being without an Amiga), let alone the data making up the music! Can some kindly soul please try and help me out?

I tried but did not find it on my Euroscene cd, if I find another cd of modules i'll look for you.

Hum,
Well apart from telling you off for not running Winuae ,
i could suggest that you tell me where you downloaded it from and i`ll extract it for you...
(i`ll load it up on some server for you to download...)

btw, you use deliplayer?

UPDATE:
i found it...i just extract and upload.....

Hum, it`s a strange .exe file.. i didnt bother with the .info bit...

Works fine on the amiga using iconx...it doesnt load into octamed though... and i cant get anything to recognise it on the PC side...not even deliplayer...

OctaMED SS allowed the saving of files as Amiga executables. (song + player all in one) how very rare to fine one :-)

It's PowerPacker 2.3 crunched executable.

I remember that one - got it on floppy and ADF here :-)  I've extracted the song itself with EagleRipper and it'll play on EaglePlayer at least - DeliPlayer for the PC seems to be having problems, but I'm sure I got it to run it a while back.  If anyone else would like the link to the file, please PM me.

@blobrana:

I thought someone would bring that up. Well, WinUAE is out of the question since I don't have ROM images, and I am smart enough to not ask people after those on these forums. However, trying to track these down via other means has proven to be much harder than locating the song I was after. Of course I could buy Cloanto's Amiga Forever, but I think that's a tad expensive for the extraction of just one song. And as you (and Piru) discovered, it's crunched, and comes with its own player, which I still would need to deattach...

@alx:
Thanks a lot, mate. Your efforts are much appreciated!

I've also been looking for a certain modtune. I had it on my harddrive years ago but lost it for some reason, can't remember why. It was called Party Tool if I remember correctly. Great techno/dancemod. There was some "singing" too: "Ready to kick some a**, a**, a**, a** - Let the bass kick!" Or something like that. Haven't found it anywhere.

Does anyone else remember that one? It would be so cool to hear it again! :-)

And sorry about those a**-words, but they were in the song.

If you're stuck, I'll run it and then rip it out of memory...  I wrote a little utility to search memory for the Soundtracker signature (forgotten what it was) then write the song out to disk.

It is an executable version of a SoundFX 1.3 module. Once unpowerpacked and extracted, the module should be able to play fine with DeliPlayer on the PC.

sfx.pipes.bin (http://www.iki.fi/sintonen/sfx.pipes.bin) ... Extracted from the binary (with xfdDecrunch and CygnusED ;-)). Works with UADE (http://www.iki.fi/sintonen/uade/) at least.

Enjoy!

Let the bass kick sample was propably the same as used in Party Tool, but the rest of the tune was different.
