Title: Ariadne II and MultiFace III on ebay
Post by: odin on January 30, 2005, 05:28:43 PM
Clickety-click (http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZodin_wilkoffie).

I'll be adding a BlizzardPPC, BVision and A1200T with Z2 daughterboard early next week, so watch this space ;-).

@pulsatingquasar:
No PPC Amiga anyway :-), I'm planning on souping up my A4000. I just bought a Prometheus for it (I expect the Ariadne to easily cover the cost for the Prometheus ;-)).

@effy:
Yeah, a while ago an Ariadne II sold for ~150EUR on ebay.de  :-o. And to think I only paid ~40EUR for it secondhand a few years ago. I like it :-D. I think the Ariadne will end up somewhere around the 100EUR mark, at least if it reaches that I'm happy.

Ah. With a 68060 turbo board then?

I'm also planning on souping up my A4000. Allready have the CyberVisionPPC. Still waiting for the CyberstormPPC though.  :-(

Maybe I will go for a Mediator in the end.

Nah, I don't think I'll buy a 060 (unless they come down drastically in price, perhaps after OS4 gets released). I'm more thinking of a 040. Or I'll plod along with the current C= 030 board for now.

Odin : An 68030 board in an A4000D with a Prometheus ??? Will that speed up things a lot ??? I also have two Prom´s (in the box still) but don´t know yet in which A4000 to install ...

I'd put at least something faster in than the speed of your A1200.

PulsatingQuasar : I know, the faster the better, but my financial resources are not so wide to get me a CPPC or even a MK3 040  :-) But I remember that when I had an A1230 and installed a Zorro4 busboard with a CV64/3D that the general speedup was bigger than I first expected it to be, mainly due to the fast screen acceleration, so I guess it´s the same as when you would install a Prom in an A4000D with a humble 68030/25. Am I wrong ?? Please correct me if I am, still need to learn a lot  :-D

I guess you're right. Using those AGA patches on a Blizzard 1230-IV makes the whole experience much better.

So getting rid of AGA and putting a nice and fast Voodoo 3 in will help but can be such much better with a 68060 processor.

PulsatingQuasar : absolutely no offense to the 1260 but the first time I had seen such an A1200 I was really disappointed about the speed of the grafix. It may even seem that normal Workbench usage looks faster on an A1230 with gfx card than an A1260 with only AGA. Of course when it comes to pure processing then the A1230 will stay far behind, I know that. I just meant the impression that it gave me the first time ...

Indeed, in normal Workbench usage you benefit much more from a gfx card than from a CPU upgrade. But my main reason for getting the Prometheus is to put a cheapass PC NIC in it. A Voodoo is just a very welcome bonus.
