Title: Thief...I say Thief (well kinda, but beware)
Post by: DMC12 on January 18, 2005, 10:16:00 PM
What in the heck is this guy thinking...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4598&item=5158024499

He copied my entire listing description (on my current auction)to a "T", which all in all isn't that bad but the worst of it is this description includes the exterior condition, all of the chip versions (that I spent a great deal of time finding), memory, and accessories for MY machine. Not only that, he then copied one of my pictures for his listing?!?

Sorry to sound like I am complaining but, this guy is amazing. I feel bad for the people bidding on this as there is a REALLY good chance the wining bidder will not get the item described.

File a complaint with EBay, they _should_ do something about it. Whether they actually do is another thing.

Happens all the time.  Someone actually stole my A600HD image in my gallery here on A.org to use in their A600 auction on eBay! LOL

Happens every day. I've had that happen to be ALOT. I could point out example after example. Hell outside of eBay I've even written guides which THE VERY NEXT DAY show up on other websites, word for word with my pics, with someone else takig credit.

Sad.

Have you filed a complain with eBay?
You might also try visually watermarking your auction images.

Isn't it just a bit retentive to complain about someone using what looks like a generic image of an Amiga computer. Now if they used your NICE ANIME artwork without your permission I'd be on your side (Is that really yours? if so nice work).. But it isn't that original or that different from any other e-bay auction...

Maybe you should consider it a compliment....

Send him an EMail offering to do the copy for his
other auctions (for a fee that is) :-D

This was at some point and probably still is a violation of ebay policies and if you report it they might get their account suspended.

As much as it might seem like not a big deal to steal the text it definitely can be one.

Hey now...Slow down...The link provided is not mine that's the other guys... Beleive me you don't want to see my ANIME artwork, artist I am not. :-D

To answer your question, no I don't think this is retentive at all. This guy is one of the reasons you have to be carfull bidding on ebay.  People take images all of the time...and then you think you are bidding on something that can be entirly different then you might receive.  I don't do that..when I list they are real images, not fakes and not copies, so people know what they will recieve.

BTW...eBay does not allow people to copy images from other auctions and especially "current" ones.

Ya know, his other autions seem a little on the plain side.  Not a bad idea...      Really I'm just kidding, although it makes me think about his other auction pictures possibly being fake too...

Speaking of thieves.  Someone just stole my auction description.

I sold a GVP A530 a few weeks ago, and guess who comes out of the woodwork and decides to sell his GVP A530 as well?

None other than Mr. BoingBoss.

So the guy totally steals the layout of my auction, but he doesn't stop there, he has the nerve to mention in _HIS_ auction that my auction sold for $200 or so and he gives people my auction number.  Sheesh.

Here's my auction:
My auction! (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5155000290&ssPageName=STRK:MESO:IT)

Here's his auction (posted up a few weeks later)
His auction! (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4598&item=5157841873&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW)

Yeah don't you just hate it when people steal pics off Amiga web sites for their auctions?  ;)

Some people are amazing...this seems like a real epidemic going on!

I contacted eBay about my problem...As far as I know they took care of it, his item "ended due to errors in listing" less than a day later.  Under eBay help, there are a few menus to choose from to report such a problem...
