Oh yeah!

1.  "Ice Station Zebra" is my top pick on this subject.  Made in early 60's, it starts Rock Hudson, Ernest Borgnine and Patrick McGoohan (sp?).  Very good cold war flick that shows (in my opinion) the "political mood" of the era.  The IMDB link is:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063121/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnxzZz0xfHR0PW9ufHBuPTB8cT1JY2UgU3RhdGlvbiBaZWJyYXxteD0yMHxsbT0yMDB8aHRtbD0x;fc=1;ft=1

2.  "The Bedford Incident" is my second favorite film of the era.  Stars include Richard Widmark, Sidney Poitier.  IMDB link is:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058962/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnxteD0yMHxzZz0xfGxtPTIwMHx0dD1vbnxwbj0wfHE9VGhlIEJlZGZvcmQgSW5jaWRlbnR8aHRtbD0xfG5tPW9u;fc=1;ft=1

3.  "Hostile Waters" is a good one. Has Rutger Hauer. IMDB link is: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119320/

I have more if you wish.   :-D

Red Dawn is a good film? Even Rambo III was more realistic.

Stick to movies that are at least a little realistic, like this Graham Greene classic, Our Man in Havana (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054152/).

Imagine Red Dawn, but the Russians offer everyone the chance to participate in fake elections so they could "choose" a puppet regime. Everyone would have been happy and welcome them with showers of rose petals. Then those nasty "anti-American" terrorists, insurgents and dead enders would have got what's coming to them. :-D

How about "Real Genius", is that too far off on a tangent?
"Spies like us", (ditto, lol)
"War Games"

None of these really count, do they?

Hum,
The film with Sean Connery has already been mentioned, and the bond movies… (or the one with Micheal Cane and the ruthless Russian agent (Pierce Brosnan) who is trying to smuggle in and detonate an atomic bomb ...)
The Fourth Protocol
http://am.teammarket.com/vhs/The%20Fourth%20Protocol.html
(a lot of people know that)

But check out `The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming`
http://www.epinions.com/content_36684533380

But what about `Stalingrad` or `enemy at the gate`, (it was pretty cold then)

And of course Das Boot has to be mentioned.

  Under fire?

And I seem to remember `Letter From Russia`(??), a romance between a british girl and a Russian sailor.

It was actually called "Letter to Brezhnev" and starred Margi Clarke.

No-one's mentioned "The Final Countdown", which audaciously pits a time-travelling nuclear carrier against the imperial Japanese Navy.  The dogfight scene between two F14 Tomcats and 2 A6M Zeros was a brilliantly done piece of aerial photography.  It's not strictly 'Cold War' but portrays the mood of the late 1970's quite well.

The Russia House (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100530/) is quite a decent spy flick.

BTW ltstanfo fix your link! You're screwing up the wordwrapping!

Oh get off it Kenny :whack: Red Dawn was a good no-brainer movie. It's a MOVIE not a documentary, it's not supposed to be realistic. It does(or i should say DID) play into the cold war fears of the 1980's.

A kid watching it for the first time now in the year 2005 might think it's just some crappy unrealistic flick, it's dated for sure. In it's day it was a good flick.

-Edit-

Talking about dated movies.. I purchased The Day After on DVD recently, man-o-man is that dated  I still enjoyed watching it again, but the younger generations probably wouldn't get it.

It's not even a good no-brainer movie. Just like Rambo III. :)

Who wants a no-brainer movie anyway?
Who can disable their brain for more than 1 1/2 hour? :-?
