Hey chaps, want to ask all you WinUAE people out there about min PC spec.
My Hunk-Of-Junk PC is :
Athlon 750MHZ
650MB 133 SD ram
Nvidia G-Force 4 GFX (I have a GF2 also)
Anyone think this will cut it?
Kev

@LinchpiN
WinUAE runs even on 486.
Or you're asking how fast it will run?
-
Don't listen to Mr. Optimist! :-) It'll emulate an A1200 with a 28 MHz 020 just fine, but don't expect it to compete with high-end systems.
-
Eww! Sloooooooooow then :-(
Today is officially slow day.

What the hell?
My old Athlon 600Mhz with 384meg ram and a TNT2 Gfx (running WinXP PRo) can run the Latest WinUAE far faster than any Amiga I have ever used. Including my PPC system.
Today may well be the last day for my Old 600Mhz Athlon... 5 years of solid stable and reliable service. Tomorrow my Athlon 64 mobo should arrive :-D
-
Cheers bloodline :-D
You still want those photo's dude? Ill get em digitally snapped up later for you if you do.

Didn't know the PPC was that slow. Because my A1200 without PPC, is much faster than WinUAE on my PIII, 500 MHz.

Oh yeah, cheers. Just send them to the Email in my profile :-)
-
Ok dude, and if i can get the whole front PCB out without killing my PC you can take it all :-D
-
I found that my old p3 450 was about the same speed as my 1200 when running UAE
-
Hmm ill test it and see..
-
THe Athlon 750 is a mighty beast, expect good results.
-
Its pretty cool, pull 1 jumper off the mobo and it runs at 1ghz but crashes after winblows starts up :-D

Athlons excell in emulations for some reason.

Probably something to do with the massivly parallel out-of-order execution units, the branch prediction algorithm and caching scheme that AMD choose to use.
-
PPC isn't that slow, it just isn't used for most operations, especially normal Workbench functions because they are written for 68k not PPC. You need software to take advantage of the PPC.
I've got an AthlonXP 1800+ and WinUAE runs like a dream. I've got cpu idle set so that the emulation never gets more than 33% of the PC cpu time and mp3 playing etc runs perfectly.
-
It depends what you are emulating. Emulating the custom chips takes some effort for older systems, but if you are just emulating the CPU in JIT mode (thanks to having native AHI / P96) you will find it is capable of outperforming a real 680x0 by a comfortable margin even on a lower end PC.
-
Yup.. ditto to what Karlos said (BTW, nice Tea Cosey)
My poor ickle AMD K6-450 runs WinUAE fine with the P96 driver, a couple of benchmarks have compared it to a 100mhz 020
-
you want full %100 emulation,
athlon 2200+ or p4 1.8ghz or higher.
but yes it will "run" on your machine.
-
On my Machine P3 800 Mhz. I can run ECS-Games just fine after some fiddling. Sometimes the sound isn't as smooth as on the real thing though. Most AGA-Games don't really work.
Games who support Picasso run really well with sound and everything and high Resolution. Probably much faster than on the real thing.
Applications run much faster than they ever worked on My A1200 28

My old Athlon 750 outperformed the Celeron 2400 that I have now, when it comes to pure floating-point performance.

With out wishing to be rude, one should avoid the Celeron like the plague :-(

T_Bone: Athlons excell in emulations for some reason.
I think it's because AMD uses different low-level timers or something. My Athlon 2600+ is roughly the same speed as my P4 2.4 in benchmarks, but it runs Dungeon Keeper (Win95 version) more than twice as fast as the P4! Also, with the P4, WinUAE is locked at 30FPS with VSync off and will only go full NTSC speed with VSync, but with the Athlon, it always runs at 60 FPS, with or without VSync.
WinUAE and older Windows software really doesn't like the P4 at all.
If I had known my stability problems were due to bad RAM and not the nForce 2 chipset, I wouldn't have replaced it with the P4. Next year, I'm considering an Athlon again. :-)

Well, i got the wife a Celeron 2.2ghz laptop, and its pretty quick!
I have never benched it tho, but afaik its quicker than this PC.

It was cheap, cool (and thereby quiet), and there's plenty of stable platforms for it to run on.
My 2.4 still runs Doom 3 nicely... :-)

well it should run perfectly methinks.
If it runs slow, or with sturdy sound, try using WinUAE 088R8.

I love WinUAE but if I am playing single disk based games I think Fellows is a better emulator. As for the Celeron...I love em.
My emu box has a native 1.8GHZ Celeron in it, however with some heavey cooling its running at a nice cool 2.4GHZ I did push it to 2.8 but it squeeled like a pig thats had its nuts chopped off and rolling around on its back with its ickle legs in the air. Couple that with a heafty dose of 750MB 333Mhz DDR RAM, a Geforce 4200TI Ultra and a BIG TV screen and you have one mean emu machine....Although I have to slow it down for some of the miggy stuff.
