Title: ZorroII picassoII shows in early startup menu as working, but not on showconfig
Post by: keropi on January 13, 2005, 07:17:12 AM
I installed a picassoII 2MB card on the rbm zorroII busboard on my towered 1200... But while it shows fine on the early startup menu, it does not show up on showconfig, or p96checkboards util... even if I go to early startup menu, check the card (as shown on the shot) and without reboot I choose "boot with no startup seq" and run showconfig, only the blizzard1260 shows up.... wtf? :pissed:

Why do you open several new topics for the same problem? I have seen at least 3 by now?!

Just sounds to me you have big problems getting your Picasso II to work, being recognised, timing issues with your Motherboard and trouble with your RBM Zorro expansion. You could recap the whole story in one topic couldn't you?

here is the update:

after removing the 1260 , and leaving the picassoII in, the boards get identified after the early startup menu! it show it, 2 village tronic devices, one with 128k and the other 2mb of mem.... but when I re-instert the 1260, only the blizzard gets identified after the early startup menu... WTF!

@keropi:

As far as I know, the only Zorro busboard for A1200 that is pretty compatible with zorro cards that were produced before all the hacky zorro busboards for A1200 appeared, is Elbox's Z-IV.

You have to understand that you are dealing with a MAJOR hardware hack here that was released as one of the first of its kind, so I doubt that compatibility would be as good as with a real Zorro capable amiga (e.g. A2000/A3000/A4000).

As I recall, the PicassoII is supposed to Autoconfig as 2 devices, so you're okay there.

Are you running 3.9? Back when I used a PicassoII, it had some issues with the ROM Update - the board would autoconfig from a cold start (meaning, checking Early Startup Control right after powering on), would not be detected afting kicking in the 3.9 Update file, but would be detected on subsequent warm reboots (triggered by Ctrl Amiga Amiga - reboots triggered by software wouldn't work).

Give it a warm boot a few more times and see what happens.

Glad to hear it's working :-)

I never found a work-around. You could disable the ROM Update, but that would cost you some other functionality. What I did was hit Ctrl+Amiga+Amiga right after the reset from kicking in the Update file, but before the hard drive access started up again.
